About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Michelle, a qualified relational integrative counsellor. In practice, this means I don’t work in a one-size-fits-all way — I draw on different therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, person-centred, Gestalt, CBT and mindfulness, so our work can be shaped around you and what you need right now.
I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and at your own pace. I don’t see people as needing to be “fixed”. Often, when we have the space to slow down, feel heard, and sit safely with difficult emotions, things begin to make more sense and change becomes possible. My role is to be alongside you as you make sense of what you’re experiencing and find a way forward.
In our sessions we pay attention to what is happening in the present moment, while gently exploring how past experiences may still be influencing how you feel, relating to others, and how you see yourself today.
Practice description
Counselling offers you a space to pause and make sense of what’s been happening in your life and relationships. It can also focus on a specific difficulty you want to work through or make changes with. You can bring whatever feels most relevent — thoughts, feelings, worries or things you’ve been carrying for a long time — without pressure, expectation or judgement.
The therapeutic relationship itself can be an important part of change. Having someone alongside you who listens carefully and with warmth can help you understand patterns in your life, recognise your strengths, and begin to find a way forward. At times, humour can also have a place in our sessions — therapy doesn’t always have to be heavy, and moments of lightness can be part of the work too.
I work integratively, drawing on a range of approaches and adapting therapy to suit you as an individual. Our work is collaborative, which means any suggestions I offer are always yours to consider and decide on — we move at a pace that feels right for you. Together we can gently explore what may be leaving you feeling stuck, and support you to move towards a way of living that feels more manageable, meaningful and true to you.
My first session
I offer a complimentary 15–30 minute initial phone call. This is a gentle first step where we can talk about what has brought you to therapy, and you can get a sense of me and how I work. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions and see whether working together feels right for you.
I offer both time-limited and open-ended counselling, and we regularly check in about how the work is feeling and whether it’s meeting your needs.
Sessions take place weekly, at the same day and time each week, either online or in person at Old Market, Bristol.
