I offer face to face sessions at two locations (Sharrow and Broomhill), in Sheffield.  Sessions are hourly (60 minutes), and I currently have availability on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling overwhelmed with anxiety or depression, whirring or intrusive thoughts, or low mood and rumination?  Do you often wear a ‘mask’, hide your feelings, or ‘people please’ in relationships?  Do you feel like you always need to be perfect, or strong, and feel shame when you don’t match up to these standards?  Do you struggle with low self-worth, criticise yourself and compare yourself to others, or feel like an imposter?

I’m Rachel, I’m a fully qualified Person-Centred Counsellor & Psychotherapist with a special interest in working with anxiety (including generalised anxiety, panic attacks and social anxiety), depression, and identity (‘who am I’?) issues.  As a person-centred therapist I offer you a relationship which is free from judgement and expectation, and full of acceptance, empathy, and congruence (‘being real’).  It’s my aim to create a compassionate space where you can feel free to be curious about your thoughts, emotions and experiences and gain a better understanding of them and of yourself, and where we can relate to one another as humans who are imperfectly perfect.  I will support you to identify and trust your own feelings and values rather than the judgements of others, to develop self-acceptance and authenticity, and to make positive changes which lead to improved emotional wellbeing.

In addition to working with clients experiencing anxiety and depression, I also have experience of working with clients who have experienced trauma, and have a post-graduate degree in trauma informed practice.  I also work with clients who are struggling with the impact of difficult relationships, life changes and transitions, bereavement, loss & grief, and health issues.  Before training as a Person-Centred therapist, I worked as a Registered Nurse within the NHS for many years.

Practice description

My therapy practice is in a beautiful Victorian building in Sharrow, near to the independent retailers and coffee shops on Sharrow Vale Road and Ecclesall Road.  It is fully accessible with disabled access and disabled parking, and is adjacent to local bus routes.

I also offer sessions from a welcoming period property (with parking) in the heart of Broomhill, near to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Qualifications:

  • FdA Person-centred Counselling & Psychotherapy (University of Warwick)
  • BA (Hons) Person-centred Counselling & Psychotherapy (University of Warwick) (1st class)
  • MA in Trauma Informed Practice (University of Nottingham) (Distinction)
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training in areas such as trauma, dissociation, post-traumatic strength, anxiety, menopause, bereavement/grief, mindfulness, and spirituality.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute telephone chat, prior to starting therapy.  This chat gives you the opportunity to share the reason you are looking for a therapist, and for me to share some more information about my practice and the way that I work.  You will also have the chance to ask any questions you may have.  Ultimately, it gives us both the chance to see if we are a good 'fit' to work together.  If you decide to go ahead, we’ll then arrange a suitable time for our first face to face session.

Book your free initial telephone call today by clicking on the contact form and sending me a message.  I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24hrs.
