About me and my therapy practice
I’ve lived my happiest years since having my own personal counselling and as a result, always wanted to train as a counsellor. I originally trained and worked as a Veterinary Nurse and then taught Animal Care and Veterinary Nursing in a local college for over 20 years. During this time, I realised that people found me really easy to talk to and therefore felt becoming a counsellor would be right for me.
I trained as an Person-Centred counsellor, which means the sessions are uniquely tailored to help you as an individual. Everyone is different and in sessions, I will integrate anything I feel might be helpful for you; including psycho-education, coaching, mindfulness & narrative therapy.
I believe understanding why you feel the way you do in daily life or in particular circumstances, will help you move forward towards living your happiest life.
We all grow up and often believe we feel different from other people and try to ‘fit in’ This can cause immense anxiety and exhaustion from trying so hard every day. Understanding why this might be happening for you and how it has become this way, can often result in less anxiety and becoming comfortable with who you are.
I don’t judge anyone and will provide you with a safe, comfortable, confidential space to talk about absolutely anything that causes you stress, pain or anxiety.
Practice description
Every counsellor is different and sometimes the first one you meet with, might not be the right match for you. Please don't think that all counsellors are the same; we all work differently and there is someone that will be the right person for you. It's really important that you choose a counsellor for yourself and that you feel completely at ease during sessions, as this will ensure that you have the best possible chance to work towards a happier you.I originally qualified as a RCVS Veterinary Nurse, working in clinical practice and then for over 20 years teaching Veterinary Nursing & providing personal support for students. I realised that students found me very easy to trust and talk to, not only about their studies, but also regarding home and work life. I soon realised that one day, I would go back to studying myself and train to be a counsellor, helping veterinary professionals, animal lovers and students.
I trained as a Person-Centred Counsellor, which means I will work with you and adapt the sessions according to your needs. I work integratively and (if I think it could be helpful & you want me to) I can include psycho-education, narrative work, mindfulness and other coping strategies to help you understand yourself better and work towards a happier life.
Having benefited from personal counselling, I believe that everyone can benefit from working with a counsellor. Regardless of what you talk about, you will not be judged art all, I will try my best to help you feel safe enough to talk about anything.
I have a keen interest in working with people of all ages and have many years of experience working with anxiety, bullying, difficult home-life, relationships, blended families, disordered eating (over-eating or restricting, menopause, grief, exam stress, work stress, abuse and addiction.
My previous work in the veterinary profession enables me to offer support for pet bereavement and specialised support to Veterinary Surgeons & Nurses.

About me and my therapy practice
Supervision is a hugely important part of every counsellors work and I really enjoy working with both students and qualified counsellors.
I work for myself in private practice and my core training was as a Person-Centred counsellor. Over the years, I have completed additional training and integrate psycho-education, grounding, narrative therapy, mindfulness, solution focussed & coaching and I believe I use and of this for the benefit of each individual client.
I am also the clinical group supervisor for the Cornwall Counselling Institute., working with Level 5 Diploma students.
Practice description
Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked (for 23 years) as a college lecturer, helping Veterinary Nurse students achieve their professional status. I believe the experience I have as a lecturer gives me the ability to support & guide counselling students through their training. Starting client work can be daunting and it is vital that you have a good relationship with your supervisor. I am a supervisor that will offer you a safe space to be genuine about how you feel working with your clients. All supervisors are different, so I offer a trial session (at a reduced rate) so you can meet me and see how you feel.
I offer individual sessions and group sessions.
