About me and my therapy practice
I am a relational integrative psychotherapist working with adult individuals, both in-person and online. I am available to work online with clients who are based both within the UK, and internationally. I am an experienced therapist working with abuse, neglect, trauma and complex trauma, as well as anxiety, depression and bereavement. My specialisms include working with relational and childhood trauma, health anxiety, OCD (particularly intrusive thoughts), ADHD and intergenerational trauma.
I trained at the Minster Centre, pioneers in training integrative counsellors and psychotherapists. I am a registered member of both BACP and UKCP. Before training to be a therapist, I worked in both the corporate and charity sectors, and I also took time out to be a full-time Mum for a while. I therefore have a broad range of life experiences to draw upon as a therapist.
Practice description
Everyone's reasons for seeking therapy are different; we are all unique.
You may be looking to talk to someone who will simply listen to how you're feeling, without judgment, where you can share the things you're struggling to say out loud elsewhere. You may feel anxious and overwhelmed in this strange world we're living in and need help unpicking how you're feeling. You may have lost someone close to you and are struggling to cope. Or your issues may be more complex which may take more time for us to unpick.
I am here to give you that space to listen and figure out what you need.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I am able to draw on many theories, techniques and mindsets. Fundamentally, I work in a trauma-informed way, using a compassionate inquiry approach. This essentially means that I combine neuroscience and attachment-based models to help you figure out “what happened to you”, rather than “what’s wrong with you”.
With this in mind, we would work together to explore and determine an approach that works best for you. This would most likely take the format of considering the areas of your life that are currently causing you difficulty, meanwhile thinking back to your past to help you understand why you may feel the way you do, and working towards visualising what you want from the future.
My first session
Having been in therapy myself, I know what it feels like to sit in the other chair. As a relational therapist, I believe wholeheartedly in the healing power of the relationship between a therapist and a client. As such, I believe it is important you find a therapist you can work with and trust.
Your first session would therefore be a non-committal opportunity for us to get to know each other. We can then determine whether we're a good fit. We would also explore together what has brought you to therapy, what it is you're struggling with, and what you are hoping therapy can do to help.
If you decide you'd like to continue after the first session, we would then meet for weekly therapy at the same time each week for as long as it feels useful for you.
For your information, I offer sessions both in-person and online via Zoom. Each session lasts for 50 minutes. I offer open-ended therapy which can be on either a shorter or longer-term basis, depending on your personal and financial requirements.
