About me and my therapy practice

The most common 5 words I hear in in the therapy room are “you must think I’m crazy” I never do! If you are feeling it; it is valid. What can sometimes happen is feelings get confused with facts. I will sit with you while you explore those things and find the tools and strengths that you undoubtedly have within but have perhaps forgotten along the way.

Finding the right therapist for you can feel daunting; I understand that. It is so important that you find the best fit for you; I am happy to answer any questions you have. Drop me a text or email and we can decide together if it is a good fit for you. There is never any pressure from me and I will happily recommend alternative support if we feel that is more appropriate for you.

I offer time and space in a confidential environment either face to face, online or telephone. I trained integratively and work from a person centred core which means that I am client led and draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to suit you, after all this is your journey. My aim is to create a warm environment where my clients feel safe and supported to open up and move forward with their lives.

I have a great deal of experience working with bereavement and loss from my time offering long time support in a hospice supporting patients, carers and those bereaved.

From 2019 - 2022  I worked for the NHS as a Staff Counsellor counselling colleagues and delivering training in resilience and stress management. Throughout this period I supported many colleagues experiencing stress and or burnout due to their working environment and the vicarious trauma that can come from that.

I undertake regular robust Continuous Professional Development to ensure that I am up to date and current to enable me to offer the support that you deserve. This includes a Certificate in Trauma-Focused therapy, specialist bereavement training and working with a diagnosis of life limiting illness.

Practice description

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Accred) and work within the BACP Ethical framework.

Before training as a counsellor I spent 12 years in the RAF and 10 years working in education pastorally supporting students. I completed a placement within the school offering one to one counselling; I strongly believe in the value of offering a non judgemental space to help young people unlock their potential. I have a great deal of experience supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community and am committed to providing an affirmative inclusive space.

I do not believe that there should be a one size fits all approach. You are unique and with me so will your counselling experience be. Alongside my NHS and hospice experience I have worked in private practice since 2022 supporting adults with a wide range of life challenges. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and am committed to providing an inclusive, non-judgemental space where you can be yourself.

I have a specialist interest in all areas of bereavement and loss and am also a Pet Bereavement Advisor (qualification awarded by the Blue Cross).  Loss can be felt for so many reasons not just after the death of a loved one. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to grieve, the path will be as unique and individual as you are. Sharing your story and normalising your feelings is so important; perhaps I can help with that.

Being a military veteran myself I understand the challenges that can be faced both whilst serving and integrating into “civvie” street. It can be a really challenging time. I don’t promise to have all the answers but I do believe that you can navigate your way through and can offer a safe space for you and help you find tools to work through whatever is going on for you. You are not alone in this.

People come to counselling for many different reasons. Whatever has brought you here, I'll meet you with curiosity and warmth and without judgement.

My first session

During our first session we’ll explore what has brought you to counselling, what you hope might be different as a result of therapy and whether we’re the right fit to work together. There is no pressure to tell me everything straight away and you are always in control of what you choose to share.

I am very client led;  the first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and for you to ask me any questions you may have. It is normal to feel nervous and have anxious thoughts about this.  How is it going to work? Do I expect you to know how to “do therapy”? No! There is no wrong or right way to do therapy. We will work at your pace and together we will figure out what feels helpful.

I’ll gently ask some questions about your current situation, any previous counselling, important relationships, support around you and how you’re coping day to day. This isn’t a test or an assessment to pass - it simply helps me understand your world.

I offer a complimentary 20 minute intro session either via google meet, WhatsApp video or phone to get a feel for how it might be to work together. It is so important for you to find the best fit for you.

I run a really flexible diary to accommodate shift work and other life commitments offering early morning and evening sessions.

I also offer Solution Focused Single session therapy that last up to 75 minutes tailored to you and your needs. Please enquire for further details on this.
