About me and my therapy practice
I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever is bringing you to counselling. You don’t need to have everything worked out before you come. We can start wherever you are and make sense of things together.
I work collaboratively, which means I won’t tell you what you should do or try to fit you into a particular way of working. Instead, I’ll listen carefully, help you understand what is going on for you, and support you to find ways forward that feel right for you.
Sometimes counselling is about understanding difficult feelings or experiences. Sometimes it is about managing anxiety, building confidence, improving relationships or coping with feeling overwhelmed. You may simply feel stuck or know that something needs to change but not know where to begin.
I draw on different therapeutic approaches and adapt my work to you rather than expecting you to adapt to a particular approach. I believe that feeling understood and accepted is an important part of the counselling process, and I’ll work at a pace that feels manageable.
I have experience supporting both young people and adults, including through my work as a school counsellor. I also have experience working with anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, life changes and relationship difficulties.
My aim is to provide a space where you can be yourself, make sense of what you are experiencing and develop a better understanding of yourself and what you need.
Practice description
I work with adults and young people who may be struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, low self-esteem, relationships, difficult emotions or changes in their lives. You might be finding things harder than usual, feeling stuck, or simply know that you are not feeling like yourself.
I offer a calm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk honestly about what is going on. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to talk about or have a clear idea of what is wrong. We can take time to work that out together.
My experience as a school counsellor means I have particular experience supporting young people with the pressures of school, friendships, family life, identity, confidence and emotions. I also work with adults who may be dealing with anxiety, stress, relationships, life changes or feeling overwhelmed by everything they have to manage.
I offer online counselling, making sessions accessible whether you are at home, working remotely or simply prefer the privacy and convenience of online therapy. For young people, I work collaboratively with them while recognising the importance of their wider support network.
I believe counselling works best when you feel comfortable being yourself. I will listen without judgement, help you make sense of what you are experiencing and work with you at a pace that feels manageable.
Sessions are 50 minutes and take place weekly where possible. Before we begin, we will have an initial conversation to discuss what brings you to counselling and whether I am the right person to support you.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like support with. You do not need to prepare anything in advance or know exactly what you want to say.
I will ask some questions to help me understand what you are experiencing and what you hope counselling might help with, but there is no expectation that you will tell me everything straight away. We can take things at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
We will also talk about how counselling works, confidentiality and any practical arrangements, and you will have the opportunity to ask me questions and decide whether you feel comfortable working with me.
There is no separate assessment session or different first-session rate. The first session is a counselling session in its own right, and we can begin exploring what is important to you from the outset.
For young people, I will explain confidentiality and its limits in an age-appropriate way and make sure they understand what they can expect from counselling.
Most importantly, the first session is a chance for us to see whether we are a good fit. You don't have to make everything make sense before you come.
