About me and my therapy practice
A warm welcome to my directory profile.
I'm Martin Ross, a qualified person-centred counsellor based in Barnton, Northwich, Cheshire.
Life can sometimes feel complicated and overwhelming, leaving us feeling anxious, confused, stuck or unsure of ourselves. You may be experiencing grief, loss, trauma, relationship difficulties or simply feeling disconnected from the life you're living.
I've been counselling since 2018, working with people from all walks of life. My experience includes five years working in hospice care, supporting people through grief, bereavement and some of life's most difficult moments.
At the heart of my work is my belief that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is central to meaningful change. I believe that genuine human connection, built on trust, understanding and acceptance, creates an environment where people can begin to explore their experiences and develop a greater understanding of themselves.
My approach is compassionate, honest and down-to-earth. I value being genuine in my relationships with clients, offering a balance of careful listening, reflection and, when appropriate, gentle challenge.
I don't believe counselling is about telling someone how to live their life. It's about working together, respecting your individual experiences and supporting you in finding your own way forward.
You don't have to be experiencing a major difficulty to benefit from counselling. Sometimes you simply need somewhere to sit, talk and feel genuinely listened to.
I offer face-to-face counselling in Barnton, Northwich, and online.
If you're considering counselling, I offer a free 20-minute consultation call. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what you're looking for and explore whether working together feels right for you, without pressure or obligation.
Practice description
New Horizon Counselling | Barnton, Northwich, Cheshire.
My private counselling room is located within the Life Church building in Barnton, Northwich, Cheshire.
The room is used exclusively for counselling and provides a quiet, private and comfortable environment where we can talk openly without unnecessary interruptions.
I've created a warm, welcoming and relaxed space rather than an overly formal one. I believe the environment matters, and I've taken care to create somewhere you can feel comfortable and focus on yourself.

Face-to-Face and Online Counselling
I offer face-to-face counselling in Barnton and online sessions for those who prefer to access counselling from a suitable private space of their own.
Both options allow us to develop a supportive therapeutic relationship and work together in a way that suits your circumstances.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to meet, begin getting to know each other and see how it feels to talk together.
We'll start by going through some practical information, including contact details, confidentiality, privacy and our counselling agreement. I'll explain how I work, what you can expect from counselling and answer any questions you might have.
I'll invite you to share a little about what's brought you to counselling and what you're hoping to gain from our time together.
You don't need to have everything figured out, and there's certainly no expectation to share anything you're not ready to talk about.
For me, the first session is also about beginning to build that trusting relationship which I believe is so important in counselling.
We'll take things at your pace, allowing you the time and space to settle in, get a feel for working together and begin wherever feels right for you.
