About me and my therapy practice

Hi there and thanks for stopping by on my page. I'd like to play my part in being useful to you in any way possible to help you with any kind of problem you feel stuck with right now. It's doing what's necessary not just in the sense of providing a more immediate sense of relief, and to get some better ways of coping going, but also to get under the skin of the problem more, to get to a likely problem behind the problem, in order that having to cope, or feeling like you have to get away, is less of a proclivity as you're more naturally relaxed in your own skin, more of the time - confident and calmly solving problems you care about.

I've long been fascinated by our relationship with our own anxious and depressive states, in accordance with living a life that's truer to our own values. It's this that'll afford a better mind and body harmony for longer. It's one thing what we suffer from others or other things, but it's another if we end up acting and living in opposition to ourselves.

At the edges, you're unique. This means you'll have a unique way of seeing things that's both a curse and a superpower. So it doesn't just remain a curse, and where you're at odds with yourself, it's important we get to understand what makes you different and how that itself forms better connections. This means you've a regulated relationship with yourself.

Practice description

Typically we'll start off with weekly sessions. This may go onto fortnightly, monthly or even quarterly. This can be a beginning to end process, but really it's something that should be seen as useful to your life, and has you feeling clearer and more confident accordingly.

This means you've a regulated relationship with yourself.

Practice description

From the first session we'll try to get to know the problem. Sometimes it's just a case of getting out what's on the top of your mind and the more we unravel the clearer certain themes will emerge. Often it's the case that a problem discussed well can be half the solution itself. It's not just changing your relationship with the thoughts, but moreover the emotions they give you. There's always a reason you've developed the relationship with certain emotions in the way you have. It's not necessarily a case of getting rid of them, but a realignment of your own philosophy around them, especially when you come to realise how you've been shaped by them for better and worse, can actually give you a lot of gold and greater fluidity in your life and thinking. Succinctly put, you'll worry less and have greater confidence.

It's not that things shouldn't matter to you. Yes you're gonna feel pain around certain situations still. But it's unlocking something essential within yourself when it comes to not just coping with this pain better, but actually to move with it more as a guiding light in your life, rather than finding yourself going round in circles trying to escape what only seems to feel dark about it.

Change is not transformation. It's expansion. There's no need to get rid of the old you or your old way of coping. You can't anyway and you might still need that part of you going forward. It's just that you don't want to be stuck with one way of coping, fundamentally. Because this will remain a vicious cycle. Instead, we're effectively trying to open out the other 20-30% of your own mind (the deeper part of your own unconscious which has always been recording), in order you can find confidence from living by the heart (gut) more. This will free your mind as you'll come to accept that you don't need to free yourself from your own mind. As in you'll feel easier with solving what matters to you from it, at your own pace, and the rest of the time you're able to observe emotion.

This means you've a regulated relationship with yourself.

Practice description

So we'll work at getting to understand some key links between what's happening for you at present and that of which is likely still following you unorganised from the past, hence your trigger factors.

It's not like we have to discuss everything related to the past, but it's to make the connections to the point they go beyond a dispensable theory, which won't be enough for you when you're amidst any distress, discombobulation or particularly low energy. This means we're trying to get into something equating emotional engagement. When we can do that, you've simply a better relationship with your bodily emotions. And why is this important? It's because you're never reacting to your thoughts and thoughts alone, they always need an emotion to have you care about something. The idea is that you're not just trying to come out of an emotion, but to work with it instead.

I'm not a purist. I'm really a pragmatist. So you'll always have all your own coping mechanisms, and you can still use them, we might get better ones. But if we make the connections well enough in our sessions, you won't really need them, or you'll need them less. You'll be more naturally inclined to observe and experience instead. You'll feel naturally happier in your own skin, but yes there is a part of this process that'll necessarily have us getting to know who you are - for immediately better and worse. But then everything loosens towards a more succinct and unified end. Life will flow better and feel easier.
