About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am Sophie and I am an experienced BACP accredited counsellor with a special interest in grief and loss. Alongside my private practice I work as a counsellor in a Hospice supporting patients and their families. I have over 7 years of experience working with bereavement and in palliative care. I have significant experience in supporting those who are living with a cancer diagnosis, and those with a life limiting illness.

I have also completed training in Pregnancy and Infant Loss with The Foundation for Infant Loss.

Although grief is a natural and healthy process, it can be overwhelming and it affects us in different ways. Experiencing loss can leave you feeling confused, anxious, sad, angry and distant from your normal sense of self. Grief isn’t just about the death of a loved one. It is also a natural human response to the loss of an animal, object or life transition. It is the sorrow and pain we feel when we have come to the end of a chapter in our lives.

Grief may be a painful and isolating process, and counselling can help you understand your complex and painful emotions, help you process and make sense of your loss and help you learn to live with and adapt to your grief. Counselling can also help you understand changes in your awareness and perspectives in life, and make meaning from your experiences of loss.

Practice description

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming and bring many challenges and we can feel alone in our experiences. Counselling offers an opportunity for support within a safe, non-judgemental and empathic space. Exploring your thoughts and feelings within a safe therapeutic environment can help you make sense of your difficulties and challenges offering a chance to gain a greater understanding of yourself. My aim is to offer you a safe space where you feel heard and supported. I will listen and be alongside you. I work in a client centred way and draw on a variety of therapeutic models so I can tailor my approach to your individual needs.
