About me and my therapy practice

There are times in life when we can all feel overwhelmed and emotionally exhausted. Perhaps you have experienced a difficult life transition, a bereavement, a burnout, the breakdown of a relationship or you simply have a sense that life has become harder than it used to be. Sometimes difficult feelings just appear to arise from nowhere.

You may appear to cope well on the outside while privately feeling unsure of who you are. Perhaps you're constantly worrying, overthinking situations, feeling disconnected from others or losing confidence in yourself. You may even recognise patterns that keep repeating in your relationships or notice that experiences from your past continue to influence your life today. You may feel stuck and unsure where to turn.

Talking to family or friends may feel too difficult; you might not even be sure what you would say or worry about burdening people. Therapy offers a supportive space where you don't have to manage everything on your own. Exploring your experiences with a therapist can help provide the clarity and perspective you need.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I work with adults experiencing a wide range of emotional difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, complex trauma (CPTSD), relational difficulties, grief and stress. Whether you're facing a current crisis or seeking to let go of long-standing patterns that no longer serve you, therapy can help you understand yourself more deeply and develop healthier ways of coping.

I want you to feel comfortable being who you are and to have the confidence to make positive decisions about your future and embrace your life. While you cannot change the things that happened in your past, you can change the way these experiences influence your life today. Through developing a deeper understanding of yourself, you can begin to make choices that feel more authentic and move forward with greater confidence and hope.

Practice description

I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy for adults, providing both short-term therapy focused on a specific difficulty and longer-term psychotherapy for those wishing to explore deeper, longstanding patterns.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I tailor therapy to your individual needs rather than following a single model. My work is rooted in Relational Transactional Analysis and informed by psychodynamic, Gestalt, person-centred and mindfulness-based approaches. I also draw on contemporary understanding of attachment, trauma and the nervous system, recognising how earlier experiences can shape the way we think, feel and relate to ourselves and others.

Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work. I offer a warm, gentle and compassionate space; I want to understand your unique experiences and support you through your challenges. I have a gentle, thoughtful approach and work at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you with curiosity, care and respect.

Therapy can help you recognise patterns that no longer serve you, understand where they came from and discover new ways of responding to life's challenges. And having greater self-awareness, emotional resilience and confidence, enables you to make different choices. My role is to support and encourage you to move forward in a way which enhances your life and your well-being.

I trained at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy and Counselling and have experience working with adults from a wide range of backgrounds. My previous roles include providing therapy within a GP surgery and for a charity supporting people recovering from addiction. These experiences have given me a broad understanding of the many ways emotional distress can present.

Alongside my clinical practice, I also deliver professional training for counsellors and psychotherapists.

My first session

Choosing a therapist is a personal and important decision, and it can be difficult to decide who to talk to or whether therapy is the right step for you.

I offer a free 20-minute online consultation, giving us the opportunity to meet, you to get a feel for the type of therapist I am and for me to explain a little more about the way I work.

Finding a regular appointment that fits around work, family and other commitments can sometimes be one of the biggest practical barriers to starting therapy. During our initial consultation, we can also discuss availability and see whether we can find a time that works well for us both.

There is no obligation to continue after our first conversation. My hope is that you leave the consultation with a clearer sense of whether I am the right therapist for you and whether working together feels like the right next step.
