Therapist - Stonehouse

Stonehouse GL10
07527188497
Sessions from £50.00

Features

  • Flexible hours available
  • Concessionary rates

Availability

Currently my practice days are Mondays - Thursdays between 8am and 6.30pm.

My fees are £50 per one hour session.

I am very happy to offer a free, no obligation 15-20 minute chat, either online or on the phone to help you to get a sense of if working with me feels right for you. You are also welcome to reach out with any questions you might have.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer walking counselling on the edge of Stroud, in beautiful natural surroundings with the healing power of nature. When in nature, we are often better able to pause and reflect on our feelings, widening our perspective. This can help us to see our problems more clearly, enabling us to heal and grow. It's often easier to talk about difficult issues while walking outside. For those whose schedule doesn’t allow time to meet outdoors, I also offer counselling on the phone or online or a mixture to suit you.

Perhaps you’re here feeling anxious, stressed or stuck? Maybe your mood is low, you have low self-esteem or depression or you're feeling overwhelmed? I help people who are feeling like this to find new ways to be with their experiences, bringing clarity, a fresh feel to repetitive emotions and change. I work in a gentle, supportive way, helping you explore what you are finding difficult and find new ways forward.

Our bodies are continually giving us information (eg, feeling tense and anxious) that we try to distract from, ignore or get rid of. When we get curious with these feelings, noticing this is our body’s way of communicating, sensing what is going on within and underneath these feelings, we start to see what is happening inside us in new ways, that your feelings are normal responses to what's happening in your life, allowing change to follow naturally. I use a practice called Focusing that not only helps you to pay attention to how your mind is feeling, but also your body, increasing your awareness of the whole of you. Focusing is a gentle, kind, creative, and profound way of listening inside, allowing forward movement and change.

Originally training and working as a mental health nurse in the NHS for many years, I went on to train in Person-centred counselling. I discovered that by moving the focus away from illness and towards self-awareness, self-understanding and self-acceptance, people are empowered to make the changes they are seeking.

Practice description

Where do the sessions take place?

Outdoors, on the phone or online or a mixture to suit you.

Walk and talk therapy: Rodborough or Minchinhampton Common on the edge of Stroud.

We have a few different options of terrain from flat to hilly, all with beautiful views and easy, free parking. Please let me know your particular requirements.

In wet weather, I am happy to wrap up in waterproof clothes and still be outside if this suits you too. Alternatively, we can meet online or on the phone or rearrange it, if we can find a different mutually convenient time that week, or to postpone it to the following week, so please let me know how you feel about these options. It is always surprising to me how very few sessions in the year are actually not able to happen due to the weather. So often I notice how the weather looks much worse when we look at it from indoors than when we are out in it!

Although the commons are public places, there are huge spacious areas with very few people and if someone comes close by I generally encourage us to pause our talking a moment to maintain privacy, resuming when they have passed by. If you would like, our sessions can be a mixture of walking and sitting on a secluded bench with beautiful views.

I work with clients, long and short term, face to face outdoors and online, who come with issues including:

Depression, low self esteem

Anxiety, panic and stress

Feeling overwhelmed

Health and anxiety

Stress at work

Loss and bereavement

Living with chronic pain

Redundancy

Relationship issues

Traumatic Events

Long term illness

Anger issues

I have a passion for continual learning and discovering new ideas. I feel it is an honour to be a counsellor, to connect deeply with people, understand and share their inner worlds and help them bring about lasting change.

I believe that everyone has the ability to create positive changes for a happier, more fulfilling life, and that at times, we all need a little support to make it happen.

My first session

Getting in touch can feel like a big step and is probably something you’ve been considering for quite a while. It is very common to feel full of doubts and fears about things such as whether therapy can help, feeling scared of being judged, if you are doing the right thing in reaching out, have chosen the right person, to name a few. It is very normal to feel anxious about starting therapy, about meeting someone for the first time and talking about your personal issues. It may all feel overwhelming and confusing. I can completely understand all of this and will do my best to help you feel at ease.

At the centre of therapy is our relationship together and this is where I would start; with getting to know you and spending time listening to your worries and feelings. Being able to talk to someone who is not part of your situation, in an accepting, kind, non-judgemental and confidential place can feel liberating and safe, allowing you to acknowledge and explore feelings that may not have felt safe enough to be present before.

What I can help with

Abuse, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Depression, Loss, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self-harm, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues

Types of therapy

Humanistic, Person centred

Clients I work with

Adults, Children, EAP, Older adults, Trainees

How I deliver therapy

Long term sessions, Long-term face-to-face work, Online therapy, Outdoor therapy, Short term sessions, Short-term face-to-face work, Telephone therapy, Time-limited

It is very normal to feel anxious about a first session, about meeting someone for the first time and talking about your personal issues. It may all feel overwhelming and confusing. I can completely understand all of this and will do my best to help you feel at ease.

At the centre of therapy is our relationship together and this is where I would start…with getting to know you and spending time listening to your worries and feelings. Being able to talk to someone who is not part of your situation, in an accepting, kind, non-judgemental and confidential place can feel liberating and safe, allowing you to acknowledge and explore parts of yourself that may not have felt safe enough to be present before. We can make space for all of these parts of you.
