About me and my therapy practice
My name is Elliot Chapman. I am a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor working with both individuals and couples and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I adhere to the BACP ethical framework, and provide a safe, confidential and nonjudgemental space for individuals and couples to explore their experiences and emotions.
I am experienced in working with a number of people from a wide range of backgrounds and with a range of problems such as depression , anxiety, relationship issues, anger, low self worth and stress.
As a couple therapist, my aim is to create a space enabling each partner to express their thoughts and feelings around the relationship and how they experience the other and themselves within it. It may be necessary to think about each partner’s early life as this will help to understand how early relationship experiences have influenced feelings of being in a relationship, intimacy, expectations of each other and the different ways each partner attempts to resolve conflict – which could be challenging it defensively or withdrawing from it completely. This understanding and insight will enable the couple to begin to listen to each other, understand the impact each has on the other and why, and how this could be different.
I believe that everyone has their own unique journey and experiences, and as a result, therapy should be attuned to the individual. As a counsellor I work with individuals and couples to help them gain greater insight into their inner and outer worlds, their relationships and develop more understanding of their behaviours and emotions.
Practice description
My practice is a safe, private and confidential space, consisting of face to face sessions at the Turner Centre in Colchester and the Stephenson Centre in Ipswich. I also offer therapy both online and via telephone.
I practice psychodynamically and offer weekly sessions on a fixed day and time.
My first session
My first session is private and confidential , and is an opportunity for me to find out more about you and what you are looking for from counselling. The first session allows us to assess whether or not we feel we can work together going forward.
