About me and my therapy practice

I’m an experienced Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor offering a warm, down-to-earth and supportive approach. I believe that feeling comfortable with your counsellor is an important part of therapy, so I aim to provide a space where you can talk openly, without judgement or pressure.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on you and what you need from counselling. I don’t believe that one approach suits everyone. We can explore what is happening for you now, while also looking at past experiences, relationships or patterns where these may be affecting how you feel today.

I work with adults and young people aged 13+ experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, low self-esteem, ADHD and neurodiversity, relationship difficulties, separation and divorce, menopause and other life changes, bereavement, caring responsibilities, trauma and the impact of abuse.

I also work with couples experiencing relationship difficulties, helping both partners understand patterns of communication, conflict, emotional disconnection and intimacy within their relationship.

My previous experience includes five years counselling within a charitable organisation receiving GP and NHS referrals, and two years working with Women’s Aid supporting women affected by domestic abuse and trauma. Alongside this, I have run my private practice since 2017.

Sessions are collaborative and led by what you want to explore. You won’t be told what you “should” do; instead, we work together to help you understand yourself, your relationships and your experiences, by finding a way forward that feels right for you.

Practice description

I offer counselling from my private practice in Glemsford, Suffolk, in a comfortable and confidential setting where you can talk without interruption.

I offer face-to-face, online and telephone counselling for individuals, as well as face-to-face sessions for couples. Individual sessions are 50 minutes and couples sessions are 60 minutes.

I also offer walk-and-talk counselling for clients who prefer being outdoors and find it easier to talk while walking.

I understand that contacting a counsellor for the first time can feel daunting. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to say or where to begin. We can take things at your pace and use our sessions to explore whatever feels most important to you.

Therapy can be short or longer term depending on your needs. We can review how things are going as we work together, and there is no expectation that you commit to a particular number of sessions.

My practice offers a calm, private environment, and I aim to make counselling feel approachable rather than clinical. I welcome enquiries if you’d like to ask any questions before deciding whether to arrange a first session.

My first session

Before arranging a first session, I offer a brief telephone conversation at no charge. This gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions you may have and importantly, get a sense of whether you feel comfortable talking with me.

If you decide you would like to go ahead, we can then arrange your first counselling session.

During our first session, we’ll spend some time talking about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like support with. There is no formal assessment or expectation that you tell me everything straight away. We will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I’ll also explain how I work, confidentiality and our counselling agreement, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

There is no obligation to continue after the first session. Finding a counsellor you feel comfortable with is important, and the first session gives us both an opportunity to consider whether working together feels right.
