About me and my therapy practice

I am sorry that you are having or have had an experience that brings you to seek out counselling. Seeking counselling for your experiences can be a daunting challenge.  Please be assured that counselling is a safe and regulated practice.

I have a firm belief that you know how to take care of yourself. With the right conditions you can access your own ability to grow, change and determine your own way through and forward.

My style of counselling is primarily Humanistic, and that means all your experiences are valuable and valid, and the safe space offered and the empathic relationship we build together permits you to explore and make sense of your experiences in your own way and without judgement.

I have worked in this way with a variety of different experiences that my clients have bought to counselling.   Humanistic counselling is appropriate for most experiences and life challenges. My clients have bought issues relating to abuse, adverse childhood experiences, family estrangement (which I have a lived experience of) and family patterns and relationships, work stresses, alcohol dependency and substance mis-use, struggles with identity and life purpose, bereavement and chronic grief and much more.

My clients have said that they find relief in just having the opportunity to speak impartially, empathically and without a response that suggests a solution. At the end of their therapy clients have said they have found the experience beneficial and helpful in bringing about the changes in their lives. I have witnessed improvements to mood within a few sessions, and life changing decisions at the end of therapy.

I am committed to your goal of considering new things, being curious about your experiences and taking some risks and to experience a new way of being.

I will warmly welcome an enquiry from you.

Practice description

I have a comfortable and inspiring space in the privacy of my own home. Overlooking my small garden, free from distractions, intrusion and interruption.  My clients have said it is a relaxing and safe space that provided them the opportunity to reflect and consider their experiences.  As the seasons change, it is an environment to facilitate hope, possibility and resilience for your growth.

As well as traditional talking therapy we can work together creatively and expressively in whatever way feels comfortable for you.  For my own wellbeing, I use art, writing and poetry.  Could this be a potential for you to access unspoken thoughts and feelings?

I have immediate openings for Covid safe face to face counselling  and would be honoured to support in these unprecedented and uncertain times.

Current Financial Situation

We all find ourselves in a difficult financial situation in 2022. Of course, putting food on the table instead of having counselling is an obvious decision to make. The cost of counselling reflects how much my services will benefit you.

You might be put off by the idea that counselling can be a long term financial commitment. While I am not able to offer concessionary rates at the current time, I would love to offer a tailored package, with a specific number of sessions agreed at the outset to be more aligned to your budget. Would that interest you? Get in touch to discuss further.

My first session

I know from my own experience, that going to counselling can be daunting.  Upon initial inquiry I assure you of my warmest welcome and a rapid response.  After agreeing an appointment I will provide you with more details of how counselling with me works, how I use your information and how I manage Covid risks.

I will collect very brief background information from you about what brings you to counselling and what you expect as an outcome of your sessions.  This is helpful to both of us; to help you focus on what prompted you to inquire about counselling and for me to assess any potential risks ahead of meeting you.

At the beginning of the first session we will explore any outstanding questions and concerns you may still have, after which and very gently, the work begins.

I assure you of my very best attention at all times.
