About me and my therapy practice

Anxiety and low self-esteem can be a block to living the life we truly desire 💚

Thank you for taking the time to read this profile.

My counselling role is dedicated to helping every individual thrive in their own way.

Applying an Integrative approach to my work which ultimately aims to create a safe pathway of exploring how past experiences and unconscious thoughts influence our current behaviour and relationships.

More recent practice has enabled a deeper perspective of working somatically.  Talking therapy helps us to understand and increases levels of self-compassion.  A somatic approach enables us further to release the stuck trauma held within our bodies.  Somatic Therapy is about cultivating our body's natural ability to positively adapt, regulate and find resolve from trauma.

Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however have to be a life sentence - Peter A. Levine

Together we can explore:

Emotional distress: Feelings of anger & frustration, low self-confidence, stress, relationship difficulties, panic attacks, loneliness, and isolation

Making life changes: Personal growth and issues connected to identity, sexuality, and life direction.

Life events: Starting / ending a job, lost relationships, becoming a parent, childbirth, moving, separation & divorce, and bereavement

Managing repetitive behaviours: Overcoming a sense of stuckness, obsessions, addictions, and other compulsive behaviours.

I adopt the 3 phase strategy:

*Enabling stabilization & increasing a felt sense of safety

*Support to find resolve around traumatic memories

*Embodiment and integration.  Aiding you to move forward in life

This phased approach combines elements of psychoeducation, evidenced as a key component to inform successful outcomes which hold longevity.

My BACP Accredited status evidences high standards of training, competence and experience, as well as personal awareness and understanding of how the way I work helps my clients.

Practice description

I currently access two bespoke work spaces. In person counselling is hosted within a counselling suite at Queens House (central Barnstaple). These premises offer nearby car parking and are wheel chair accessible. Importantly this facility may offer you an ideal separation from any home environment.

Additionally, I have created a counselling booth specifically for my online work.

A sense of safety, privacy and calmness provides the foundation of our sessions together.

EMDR THERAPY (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing).

EMDR is a powerful scientifically proven psychotherapy to help people recover from traumatic events in their lives which have led to poor mental health.  Recognised by both the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
