About me and my therapy practice
Welcome
Hello, I'm Jo. Thank you for visiting my profile. I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist specialising in supporting children and young people through family change, including parental separation, divorce, foster care, and care transitions.
I offer online therapy across the UK, and outdoor therapy in natural spaces around Cornwall. My work focuses on helping young people make sense of changes at home, process difficult emotions, and feel heard and supported during unsettling transitions.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their ethical framework. My practice is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ and neuro-affirming.
My Approach
I provide a warm, non-judgemental space where children and young people can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences of family change.
Together, we reflect on their hopes for therapy, and choose the approaches that best suit their needs, preferences and communication style. Sessions are tailored to each child's age, needs and communication style, using a mixture of talking therapy and creative approaches. My approach is gentle, collaborative, and paced to help young clients feel understood and empowered.
Practice description
Areas of Special Interest
Family Separation & Divorce
I help children and young people navigate the emotional challenges of family separation, and divorce. Therapy supports them to make sense of changes at home, process complex emotions such as grief, anxiety and guilt, and feel heard during what can be a confusing time. Sessions often explore worries about adjusting to new routines, managing parental conflict, and understanding complex emotions. My focus is on helping young people feel safe, build coping strategies, and strengthen their sense of belonging and security. Parents and carers are involved thoughtfully, keeping the child’s wellbeing at the centre.
Looked After Children & Care Leavers
I provide trauma-informed therapy for looked after children and care leavers, creating a safe and consistent space where young people can explore their experiences of loss, separation, and attachment disruption. My approach is collaborative and strengths-based, giving young people choice and control, supporting them to build coping skills, process difficult emotions, and develop trust. I work at a pace that feels right for each individual, always centring their voice and wellbeing, while helping them strengthen resilience, identity, and confidence as they transition toward independence.
