About me and my therapy practice

I'm Richard English, a BACP and UKCP registered psychotherapist and counsellor based in London and online.  I specialise in working with men's mental health.

Some of the issues include: anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, depression, relationships, sex and intimacy, stuckness, and work issues.

You don't always need a 'big' reason for therapy.  If you feel you're out of balance, or your emotions are negatively impacting your relationships, that's a good enough reason to reach out.  Therapy can help you make sense of what’s happening and develop tools to move toward a more grounded, confident version of yourself.

Practice description

Many men experience periods of stress, anxiety, or low mood, but find it difficult to talk about what’s going on.  Therapy offers space to reduce stress and gain perspective, creating meaningful change.  We'll explore what’s happening currently and how past experiences or self-beliefs may be shaping your behaviour.

I help men develop resilience, clearer self-understanding, and healthier ways of relating to others — at work, in relationships, and to themselves.

I trained at The Minster Centre, one of the UK’s leading institutes for counselling and psychotherapy.  Before retraining, I worked in marketing, photojournalism, and TV production.

I’ve also volunteered with Terrence Higgins Trust and Stonewall, and was a trustee at London Friend.  I work with straight, gay, and bisexual men.

My first session

I offer a free introductory chat where we can talk about what’s brought you to therapy, get a sense of how I work, and ask any questions you might have.  This helps us explore what you’d like to focus on and what you'd like to achieve.

I’ll explain how sessions are structured and what you can expect.  This first chat can help you feel more at ease and clearer about starting therapy.

If you decide to go ahead, we’ll agree a regular time to meet — either in person near Chancery Lane, London, or online — for a 50-minute session, at £80 per session.

Feel free to get in touch to arrange a free introductory chat.  I’ll reply promptly, and we can schedule a time that suits you.
