About me and my therapy practice

My name is Joanne, and I am a psychotherapist who can help you to reduce your worry/anxiety levels, recover from depression and/or trauma, or navigate your way through a painful relationship, bereavement and/or loss. I specialise in working with anxiety and stress, as well as with trauma and pet bereavement.

I offer an integrative approach that includes "parts" work (IFS), CBT and EMDR. As well as being an accredited member of the BACP, I am a registered member of the EMDR Association UK, and an accredited member of the Association of Pet Bereavement Counsellors.

You may be seeking therapy because you feel overwhelmed. You may be unable to stop yourself from worrying or be struggling with low mood or a lack of confidence. Or perhaps you're seeking therapy because of a specific long-term problem or childhood trauma. I provide therapy that will help you manage your anxiety, escape from depression, boost your confidence, and improve your relationships with others.

I have NHS experience from working in a NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) Centre, where I provided psychotherapeutic counselling to adults in West London. Consequently, I worked with people from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of mental health issues. These included anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma, bereavement/loss, low self-esteem, sexuality, work-related issues, pet bereavement, insomnia and anger management. I also have experience of working with neurodivergence, including ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia. I now run my own successful private practice, and I work for Health Assured and BUPA.

Regardless of the cause of your suffering, as a human being you are entitled to lead a happy and fulfilling life. My role is to help you achieve that, and to help you find peace.

Practice description

My background is in Higher Education. I worked as a professor and academic before I retrained as a psychotherapist, so I could help people to live better lives.

I am qualified in integrative psychotherapy. I am a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) and I can draw upon various techniques to work with adverse childhood experience and trauma. These include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am also a qualified pet bereavement counsellor and clinical supervisor.

I offer integrative psychotherapy to facilitate healing, emotional regulation, personal development and growth. I also offer CBT which can help you to become your own therapist, by learning how to recognise and change your own automatic thoughts and behaviours. CBT is particularly effective for treating anxiety and insomnia.

In most cases I will suggest using somatic activities/exercises to help regulate your autonomic nervous system (ANS). These are evidence based neurological practices that I use alongside my therapeutic approaches.

Once we start working together, I will suggest regular reviews of our progress. We will use NHS approved mental health audit tools to guide us to a successful outcome.

My first session

I offer a free telephone session where we can explore your therapeutic aims and expectations. I can also answer any questions you might have about me or my practice, and we can work out how we might work together.

In the first instance, you may want to commit to a limited number of sessions, or you may want a more open-ended approach. We can discuss this in our initial consultation.

Supervisor - Springhead, Oldham

Springhead, Oldham OL4
Sessions from £45.00

Features

  • Flexible hours available

Availability

I offer in-person and online one-to-one supervision.

Online sessions are £45 for 60 minutes or £60 for 90 minutes.

Trainee Counsellors: The BACP requirements for trainee counsellors is 1.5 hours of supervision per month, with one hour for every eight hours of counselling. However, sessions must take place every two weeks. I offer fortnightly online sessions of one hour that will cover 4 counselling hours per week for £35 per session.

About me and my therapy practice

Are you looking for supportive, informative and gently challenging supervision? I will provide an encouraging, empathic, and supportive space for you.

I have experience of working with therapists from a variety of modalities and at various developmental stages. I am currently supervising trainees from a variety of colleges and universities, as well as newly qualified counsellors. I have experience of helping newly qualified therapists to establish a successful private practice and work towards their BACP accreditation.

I am also working with more experienced therapists that are entirely in private practice, and others that are juggling a portfolio that includes paid and unpaid employment.

I also have experience of working as a therapist and assessor for the NHS. I am familiar with the NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) system and using IAPTUS to make referrals etc. I now run my own successful private practice. I work for Health Assured Wisdom Wellbeing, and I am a BUPA recognised therapist.

I use the seven-eye supervision model to inform my supervisory practice. This allows us to pay special attention to the client-counsellor and supervisor-supervisee relationships, as well to the other important aspects of supervision that include client presentations, CPD/training, legal support, ethics, emotional support, and other institutional factors. I can also provide guidance on the BACP accreditation procedure.

Practice description

We can start to explore your individual supervisory needs in an introductory phone call. If we decide to work together, we can explore your specific needs in much more detail during our first session. These might include specific ways of working or an explicit client base. You might like to work creatively or be very person centred. I am flexible and open to all ways of working.

I initially trained as an integrative therapist, using Clarkson's framework to integrate person centred and psychodynamic approaches. However, I am also trained to use CBT and Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD), as well as in "parts" work (IFS) and EMDR. I am also a qualified and accredited pet bereavement counsellor.

In our first session together, we can also decide on how we exchange relational feedback, so we can reflect on the process. I want your supervision to be everything I want my own supervision to be. This is supportive, informative, gently challenging, and an overall pleasant experience for both of us.

My first session

I offer a no-obligation phone call to explore how we can work together.
