I am currently available to take on new clients. I offer online therapy via Zoom to adults in the UK and internationally, in English and Mandarin Chinese.
My current availability is primarily during weekday daytime hours and Saturday mornings (UK time).
About me and my therapy practice
My name is Beibei Mu. I am a UKCP-accredited and BACP-registered psychotherapeutic counsellor, offering online therapy in English and Mandarin Chinese to adults in the UK and internationally.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties or a loss of direction; going through a period of change or uncertainty; or finding that, despite things appearing fine on the outside, something inside feels unfulfilled or disconnected. You may also be questioning who you are, where you belong, or how you want to live.
I have a particular interest in working with questions of identity, belonging, relationships, life transitions and meaning, including the experience of living between different cultures, languages and ways of life.
The soul has a central place in my work. Rather than seeing emotional pain simply as a problem to be fixed, we will make meaning of your suffering, pain and wounding as the soul’s calling for attention. Therapy can offer a space not only for relieving distress, but for becoming more deeply acquainted with who we are.
My approach is integrative and relational, influenced by transpersonal, Jungian, psychodynamic and Gestalt traditions. Depending on your needs and interests, our work may include imagery, visualisation, dreams, embodiment and creative exploration alongside talking therapy.
I hold an awareness of difference and diversity, and of the ways our cultural, social and family contexts shape our inner worlds. Psychological difficulties do not exist in isolation: questions such as “Who am I?” are often intertwined with “Where do I belong?” and “Who am I in relation to the cultures and communities around me?”
I aim to offer a relationship that is warm and thoughtful while also being able to challenge you when this may support deeper exploration and change. There is no single way of doing therapy, and I adapt how I work to the individual person and what emerges between us.
Practice description
I grew up in Xi’an, the ancient capital of China and moved to the UK in my adolescent years. My secondary life passion of travel led me to travelling, working and living in many countries and cultures. These experiences have given me deep understanding of what it can mean to live between languages, cultures and different ideas of home, and to relate sensitively to clients coming from diverse backgrounds.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in the banking industry, including several years at JPMorgan in product and project management, and later in the charitable sector across arts, culture, health and wellbeing. My own life path has involved changes of career, country and ways of life. These experiences have shaped my interest in how we navigate transition and uncertainty, particularly when a life that appears successful or settled on the outside no longer feels quite right within, and how we find out way towards a life that feels more genuinely our own.
I trained at Re-Vision in London in Integrative Transpersonal Counselling and. Over the years I have continued to deepen my work through continued professional development in areas including attachment, trauma, embodiment and somatic approaches. I am also a qualified yoga teacher (RYT 200 hours), and have an ongoing interest in the relationship between mind, body, creativity and our inner lives.
Earlier in my therapy career, I volunteered as a helpline counsellor with The Mix for young people in their 20s and worked as a counsellor at Re-Vision's Low Cost Counselling Service in London. I now work independently in private practice.
Outside my therapy work, I enjoy writing, reading, cinema, yoga and dance, travelling and exploring different cultures. Creativity, movement and the arts continue to inform both my personal life and my curiosity about what helps us feel more fully alive.
My first session
Finding the right therapist is an important part of beginning therapy. I therefore offer a 50-minute introductory session (£60), giving us time to explore what brings you to counselling, what you are hoping for, and what it might be like for us to work together.
This is a full therapeutic conversation rather than a brief assessment. You are welcome to bring any questions or concerns you have about therapy, and we can think together about whether my way of working feels right for you.
If you would like to arrange an introductory session, please share briefly of the themes you would like to explore in therapy, include some indication of your availability when you contact me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
If we decide to continue, ongoing sessions are £85 for 50 minutes. We will agree a regular time and establish a therapeutic contract covering confidentiality, cancellations, holidays, payment and other practical boundaries.
