About me and my therapy practice

Are you struggling with trauma or abuse, stress or anxiety, low mood, not feeling good enough, loss, menopause, parenting...?

I offer compassion, warmth and humour to help you find your way through whatever you are dealing with and feel better and more able to cope.

I see individuals remotely (online video or telephone) as well as in person in South Manchester.

I qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Keele University. Since then I have completed many other courses and have achieved BACP accreditation.

I currently work part-time as a counsellor for a counselling charity in south Manchester (working with couples and individual adults) and for the NHS (working with individual adults who have experienced sexual abuse or assault).

Practice description

My therapy focuses on your needs, with a person-centred approach at heart. We will explore the difficulties that you are facing and work collaboratively together to find ways through.

I have training and experience in working with trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and this is an area of specialism for me. I work in a trauma-informed way and I use Judith Herman's three-stage approach to trauma recovery: safety and empowerment, retelling and mourning, and reclaiming the future.

Sometimes trauma gets 'stuck' in body; I can offer yoga practices such as breathing exercises, if you’d like that, as I'm also a qualified, experienced and fully insured yoga teacher. These practices are also helpful for anxiety.

My first session

At your first counselling session, I will invite you to tell me about your current difficulties and what you would like from your counselling. We will discuss and agree how we are going to work together and I will take down some details about you which I will store securely.

We will usually meet weekly after that and we will regularly review progress together and adjust our work as necessary to help you meet your aims for counselling.
