About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Avril, I offer individual therapy for adults providing direct and compassionate support to help with depression and anxiety.
Life can be demanding and takes a lot from us. You may be struggling with the loss of a loved one or relationship conflict. You may be living with pain or distress from a long term health condition. You may be managing work stress or juggling the demands of childcare or caring for elderly relatives. You do not have to face problems alone.
Therapy is one of the most effective ways to regain a sense of direction and calm, but what we should be focussing on isn’t always clear. Your sessions can help with reflection and self-exploration to better understand yourself and your priorities.
Anxiety is a constant, hard to control worry, often with physical symptoms like a racing heart, uneasy stomach or trouble sleeping. Anxiety can feel overwhelming, making it difficult to manage everyday life and it may not be clear where it is coming from. As a counsellor I can support you to untangle your thoughts and develop effective coping strategies.
Depression is a mood disorder that goes beyond usual sadness. It can drain your energy, effect your sleep and appetite and make it hard to do the things that you used to do. As a counsellor I understand how heavy this can feel but professional support can help this feel lighter. I can listen to your struggles and explore with you a different outlook to help find a way forward.
Menopause, in all of its stages, brings unexpected challenges and can affect every aspect of a woman’s health and wellbeing. There are many physical symptoms, such as pain and tiredness, but there is often an unseen impact on wellbeing. Through symptoms such as brain fog, heightened emotions and confusion, it is easy to lose a sense of who you are. As a counsellor with lived experience, I an offer a safe space to explore together the additional challenges that this phase of life is bringing.
Practice description
As a registered therapist based in Bedford, I offer a confidential space where we can work together to find your path forward.
Whether you are managing anxiety, depression, grief or stress, I’m here to talk things through.
I have built on my academic postgraduate degree in cognitive science with diplomas in psychodynamic and psychotherapeutic counselling. My training in solution focussed therapy and sandplay work enable a creative approach to be incorporated into my work.
I am registered by the BACP and my work is bound by their ethical framework. I have regular supervision and I am fully insured.
My continued professional development focusses on issues that affect women such as menopause, reproductive health concerns and emotional dysregulation in children.
My practice is based in a community consulting space in Bedford town centre with a waiting room and bathroom facilities. My room is on the first floor, up one flight of stairs. There is a public car park right next door and an intercom entry for security.
Contact me today to schedule a consultation to take your first step to feeling calmer and more grounded.
My first session
After making an enquiry I will arrange a free, no commitment 20 minute online call to arrange a convenient day and time for an initial consultation.
The initial consultation which would be for 1.5 hours at a cost of £55. It could be held at my counselling room in Bedford town centre or online.
At the initial session I will talk with you about why you have chosen to come for counselling now and we can explore together what your counselling goals may be. It is an opportunity for you to ask me any questions about counselling.
At the end of the initial session we can decide whether we are a good fit to work together.
