About me and my therapy practice
A little background about me
Hello, I'm Donna, a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, and the founder of Through The Trees Counselling.
I genuinely love the work I do. It is a privilege to support people through some of the most challenging times in their lives and to witness the positive changes that can happen when they feel heard, understood and accepted.
I am experienced working with adults and teenagers (14+) experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, health anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, relationship difficulties, men's issues, intrusive thoughts, bullying, exam pressure, self-harm, and emotional, sexual, psychological, domestic abuse, bereavement & trauma, Addiction - gambling, alcohol and drug misuse.
Reaching out for support can feel overwhelming. I know this because I have experienced therapy myself. I remember trembling making that first call. I also recall walking into my first session unsure of what to expect or where to begin. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. That experience helps me understand just how much courage it takes for each client to ask for help and to have therapy. I know I have been there!
My aim is always to offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly at your own pace. Together, we can explore whatever is troubling you, helping you gain greater self-awareness, develop healthier ways of coping and move towards the life you want to live.
Alongside my private practice, I have over 12 years' experience working within a mental health charity, supporting people living with a range of mental health conditions to live as independently and meaningfully as possible.
Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to face it alone. I would be privileged to support you on your journey.
I have been able to work with so many wonderful clients in both fields and have been able to see them thrive in their lives and hopefully I can help you too.

Practice description
How I can help you :-)
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, and it isn't always easy to make sense of what's going on in your own head. You may have spoken to family or friends, but sometimes you need someone who isn't involved—someone who will simply listen without judgement.
I won't tell you how to live your life or make decisions for you. Instead, I'll work alongside you, helping you explore what's been happening, understand yourself a little better, and find a way forward that feels right for you.
Our first conversation is simply a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what's brought you to counselling, what you're finding difficult at the moment, and what you'd like life to look like if things felt better. From there, we'll decide together how we can work towards that.
Counselling isn't about having all the answers. It's about giving yourself the time and space to understand yourself, and I'd be there to help you along the way. I always explain counselling to my clients as 'self care'.
My counselling style
No two people are the same, so I don't believe counselling should be either. I work as an integrative counsellor, which means I can draw on different therapeutic approaches to suit you as an individual rather than expecting you to fit one particular model.
Clients often tell me they feel lighter, stronger or more like themselves again, even if they can't quite explain why. Therapy is a process, and meaningful change often happens one conversation at a time.
My role is to understand your world from your perspective, without judgement, and to support you in finding a way forward that feels right for you.
If what you've read resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you.
Please feel free to call, text or email with any questions, and you're welcome to read testimonials from previous clients on Google or my website www.throughthetreescounselling.co.uk.
Thank you so much for reading my profile:-)
My first session
Your first session
Once you have had your initial consultation and you feel happy, we will book you in for your first appointment at a time that works for both of us.
I am completely aware that it can be quite scary and daunting coming for your first therapy session even if you have previously had counselling. I promise you that these feelings will quickly pass and you will feel a little lighter even after only your first session.
Your initial session will consist of me clarifying how we will work together making sure you understand everything about the service that I will be providing. This will then lead into your session.
At the end of your first session, I will check in with you to see how you found the experience. You can either book another session before you leave or if you are not sure and just want to think about it, you can go away and just get back to me. Either way is completely fine.
My way of working is 'open ended' which means there is no set limit to your sessions. We will review together as we go along which is a really important aspect of my way of working. My aim is that my clients are always at the centre of their therapy.
Consistency is key at the beginning of therapy. I understand that not everyone is able to commit too weekly sessions whether albeit financially or just general life commitments. However, even with fortnightly sessions clients can still reap the benefits.
I am flexible on a session-to-session basis for example if one week you prefer face to face or the next time online. We can arrange this together.
One more thing to bear in mind is that therapy unfortunately is not a quick fix. You may find that you only need 6 sessions or you may be someone that needs considerably more. Everyone is unique.
I look forward to meeting and working with you to help you be the best version of you.
Donna :-)
