About me and my therapy practice
Based in the heart of Heaton Moor, Stockport, I am a person-centred therapist and consider my role to work alongside you, to understand and empathise with your experiences. Through building trust and understanding I endeavour to help you build your inner resources to overcome difficult experiences and challenges. I don't consider it to be my role to tell you what to do, or how to feel, but to provide a safe and secure space to explore this together.
I consider it a real privilege to be able to support clients through these challenges and witness the healing and transformation that can take place.
There may be times when things feel very overwhelming and counselling provides a confidential space to explore any issues in a non-judgemental environment. It can be a very powerful experience for both client and counsellor which can bring about positive and lasting growth and change.
I offer a confidential and supportive environment for counselling and work openly with integrity and compassion. In this way I am able to have honest conversations with clients and facilitate positive change. I will be guided by you and understand that the first sessions in particular may feel difficult. We will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you and I will always provide an opportunity to talk through how things are going and if you are happy with the sessions.
Practice description
I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist (Pg. Dip. Counselling and Psychotherapy) and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
I have experience working alongside both male and female clients from a range of ages and backgrounds, supporting them through issues and challenges which include: depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, relationship issues, self-esteem and confidence issues, diagnosis, suicidal ideation, social anxiety and domestic abuse.
In addition to working in private practice I also work in secondary schools supporting young people.
Prior to my training as a counsellor I have 20 years’ experience within the charity sector leading large teams, building relationships and supporting staff on both a personal and professional level.
My first session
I offer face to face counselling sessions in addition to remote sessions via Zoom, enabling a greater degree of flexibility wherever your location.
I offer a free 30 minute introductory consultation over the phone. This provides and opportunity for me to share a little more about me and my practice and an opportunity for you to share what brings you to counselling, if you feel able to. We can then discuss if you would like to go ahead with our sessions. The most important thing for me is to create a safe environment for you to start to explore whatever challenges and issues you wish to bring into the counselling space. It is really important to me that you feel comfortable.
