About me and my therapy practice
Hi there. I'm Mike Ross, a humanistic, trauma informed, therapeutic counsellor and logotherapist.
I use empathic, reflective practices to help my clients understand their experience of trauma and develop lasting resilience.
If you're looking for support with your mental health and personal development then maybe I can help.
I've been a qualified therapeutic counsellor and member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) for 7 years.
In that time I've supported 100's of clients, many of whom were either creative industries professionals or students in higher education studying to earn BA or MA qualifications in creative fields of study.
I have particular experience in supporting those who suffer with -
- Substance dependence (such as alcohol, cocaine, prescription medication)
- Struggles with neurodivergence (ie. ADHD, Autism, AuDHD)
- Creative struggles (writers block, imposter syndrome, option paralysis, task initiation etc.)
- Anxiety & depression
- Trauma, attachment issues & grief
- intrusive or suicidal thoughts & suicidal ideation
- compulsive behaviours such as gambling, sex & shopping
I'm also a trained and experienced Specialist Mentor (SM-MH/ASC) with experience supporting higher education learners in receipt of Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) who are neurodiverse and/or suffer from mental health conditions such as generalised or acute anxiety disorder etc.
I can provide DSA application assistance and work as a private mentor for those who aren't eligible for DSA support or who are waiting for assessments.
My in-person practice is based in Brighton, U.K and I also offer online sessions.
Practice description
How Does It Work?
As counselling involves talking about sensitive issues and revealing personal thoughts and feelings, your counsellor should be qualified, experienced and a registered member of a proferssional body such as the BACP or NCPS.
In a counselling session you'll be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions. A therapist should listen and support you without judging or criticising.
Therapy can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, and find your own solutions to problems.
It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress, but you should gradually start to feel better with the right help and support.
Confidentiality
Generally speaking, everything spoken about in counselling sessions is kept completely confidential, unless a serious crime is disclosed or there is a risk of serious of harm being caused.
These occurrences are exceptionally rare and in most cases can be discussed and resolved within the session.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Everyone is unique so will have different requirements, meaning some clients only need one session whereas others may decide to continue indefinitely.
There is no pressure or obligation to continue after the initial session if a client chooses choose not to.
Within the first session, or first few sessions, people often get a sense of what is best for them.
The work should be regularly reviewed to ensure clients are getting what they need.
My first session
My intitial consultations are held online via Google Meet or Zoom . They typically last 25-30 minutes and are free of charge. To arrange one, please send me an email
If we decide to work together after that initial consultation then the fee for an online 50 minute session is £60.
In-person counselling is also available at a cost of £75/session hosted in a comfortable, central Brighton, therapy space.
I offer discounts for student counsellors and clients on limited incomes as well as for block bookings of 10 or more sessions. Details on request.
Clients are required to pay for their counselling sessions before attending them.
