About me and my therapy practice
You might be reading this because something in your life has changed, and you are hoping for support to manage your feelings about it. You might have been experiencing difficulty for a long time, or want to come to terms with how your life has been, or things that have happened to you in the past. You may want to get to know yourself better, and understand more about your reactions and responses. You may be feeling uncomfortable about contacting a therapist, or wondering what it might be like to have therapy.
I am an experienced, warm and compassionate Psychotherapist and Counsellor, working in Devizes, North Wiltshire and online. I work in a trauma informed way, with curiosity and compassion, to build a therapeutic relationship which will enable you to bring yourself and your concerns safely. I will give you space to be heard without judgement, and offer you compassion, empathy, curiosity, insight and reflection.
Like many psychotherapists, I am able to work with a variety of different experiences.
I have worked with clients with
- anxiety
- depression
- issues of identity
- family concerns
- issues with relationships
- boarding school issues
- bereavement
- stress at work
- self esteem.
- adverse life events
- disordered eating
I have worked with clients since 2018, and hold diplomas in Integrative Psychotherapy and Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Metanoia Institute, and an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from Middlesex University. My training was robust and extensive, and included extensive personal therapy. Like all therapists, I have supervision and engage in continuous training and development.
I continue to focus on improving my practice through contiuing training and development. I am also a member UKCP, and trained on a course accredited by them. I am qualified as a meditation teacher with the British School of Meditation.
My life experience also incudes working in a corporate environment and primary education, and voluntary work with children.
Practice description
I work from a beautiful peaceful and private therapy room in central Devizes. It has been designed for psychotherapy, and offers a safe space to explore your experience. My room is on the ground floor, with 4 steps to access it. There are toilets available. Water is always available to drink, and please feel free to bring a hot drink with you.
I offer sessions for 50 minutes, usually at the same time every week. I believe it is important that sessions are weekly, so I do not offer sessions less frequently.
If we agree to work online, I use zoom.
The relationship we co-create acts as a foundation for healing. I provide a safe space for you to share your story and for us to explore it without judgement. I work with empathy and compassion, and I believe that the connection will offer both healing and growth.
You might feel worried or uncomfortable about talking to someone, especially if you haven't done this much in your life. We will work at your pace, and with care for the concerns and experiences you bring. Often our past experiences impact our present, and it can also be important to explore our holistic experience of the world.
I don't work in a set or structured way, and I generally don't use forms or specific activities, which means the work we do meets what you need.
I trained integratively, which means I have experience in a variety of psychotherapeutic theories. I primarily use:
- relational humanistic approaches
- contemporary trauma and psychodynamic approaches, including attachment
- somatic approaches
I am experienced in meditation, and also sometimes draw on skills and techniques from mindfulness and meditation. I work in a way which is sensitive to your life experience.
I am registered to work with clients through Aviva, AXA, and WPA.
My first session
When you contact me, I will call or email you to set up a free initial 15 -20 minute phone call, for us to explore how we might work together. This will give you an opportunity to ask me any questions, and also to tell me a little more about what you are hoping to get from therapy, and ensure we have no boundary conflicts.
If we decide to meet, we will agree a time, and I will send you a copy of my contract for us to discuss when we meet.
In our first session together, we will explore what has brought you to counselling, and explore how we can work together. If we agree to continue after this initial session, we will agree a number of sessions, usually 6, and a date to review. Work can usually be ongoing for as long as you want to continue, and there are no set numbers of sessions.
If I realise I am unable to work with you at any point, either because there is a boundary concern, or because I feel another therapist might serve you better, I will discuss with you, and offer to make a referral to another therapist.
