About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor offering counselling, psychotherapy and relationship therapy for individuals and couples. I have experience of working with a range of issues including trauma, depression and anxiety, problems with confidence or low self-esteem, sexuality, eating disorders or self harming, feeling sad for 'no' reason, family and relationships. I have worked with most genders and couple 'combinations'.
I have been trained in a combination of approaches including Systemic and Family Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Somatic, Psychodynamic and Person-Centred. I use whatever feels relevant in any one session and whatever feels comfortable to you and enables you to access parts of yourself that feel denied.
I also have 35 years of experience of working supportively with people from all walks of life through; one-to-one Coaching, Executive Coaching, Group Facilitation of groups with conflicting objectives, Conflict Resolution, working with vulnerable children and troubled adolescents. I have successfully worked in Corporate, Educational, and Voluntary settings. I have been working privately with clients for the last eight+ years.
Practice description
Working in an open and transparent way, I tailor my approach to suit your specific needs. I provide a calm and reflective environment through which we can be curious and explore whatever it is you need to bring. Working together, we can review how you live and relate to others, both now and in the past, to enable you to make sense of how you are feeling and why, and to locate and develop your natural capabilities to enable you to support yourself better. This will be your space to be listened to, accepted and genuinely heard.
My first session
In Couples work I use a pre-first session questionnaire to collect some background information and to provide both to individually express why you think you are coming to couples therapy. Alternatively some couples choose to attend a one-to-one session with me first in place of that. I see your relationship as my client and so balance of time and transparency of communication between the three of us is paramount.
In a 'first' session, either in individual therapy or couples work, there is inevitably an element of information gathering, but it also there to offer you the experience of 'me' and my style as a Therapist. Like in most professions, finding the right personality for you is worth investigating before committing to continuing with Therapy. I am always happy to hold a 10 minute phonecall before starting as well, it is amazing how much hearing a voice can help in taking that first step.
