About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Caroline. If you need help with a current situation or a past trauma which is affecting your day to day life I would like to help you. I work online throughout the UK and in person from my private therapy room in East Yorkshire.
I’m a BACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist, and a fully trained EMDR therapist. I have over 25 years' experience supporting adults and young people. I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, understand yourself more fully and work towards meaningful change.
I can help you process trauma, deal with anxiety, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, low mood, stress, overwhelm and major life changes. My style is warm, down-to-earth and collaborative. I will listen without judgement and help you explore patterns with honesty and compassion. I see everyone as an individual and will work alongside you to understand what is happening for you and find a way forward that feels right for you.
My background is in Psychology and education and I have also worked in business and lived and worked abroad in Japan and the Middle East. These varied experiences have given me an understanding of different people, cultures and life experiences. I have also had experience supporting people through illness, dementia, relationship or job loss, bereavement and life changes and understand how unsettling and overwhelming these experiences can feel.
My approach is integrative and grounded in person-centred and Transactional Analysis (TA). We may work through talking therapy, EMDR, or a combination of both. I look at your life history and attachment style to help develop the therapeutic approach that's right for you.
I offer flexible sessions to suit you either in person or online. If you are unsure whether counselling or EMDR is right for you, you are welcome to contact me so we can consider what support may best fit your needs.
Practice description
Initial consultation - free
50 minutes for students/low income = £50
60 minute session = £60
I am flexible with session times - a standard session is 60 minutes but can offer longer sessions if needed especially with EMDR. We can discuss the length of sessions, as well as whether you prefer online or face-to-face therapy, during a free initial consultation to see whether working together feels like a good fit.
I work primarily online but can offer a face to face appointment if required in my therapy room in East Yorkshire.
My first session
Before arranging your first appointment, I offer a free introductory telephone call. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions you may have and help you decide whether I'm the right therapist for you. If you would prefer to do this by email, that is perfectly fine.
Before your first appointment, I'll ask you to complete some basic registration and consent paperwork. I'll get to know you through our conversation, gaining an understanding of your experiences, your needs and how I can best support you. If you'd like to know more about the different therapeutic approaches I use, I'm happy to provide further information before we meet.
In our first session you'll have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the therapeutic environment. We'll explore what has brought you to counselling, address any pressing concerns and what you would like to gain from therapy. If EMDR may be appropriate, we'll spend time understanding your history, identifying what you would like to work on and ensuring you feel ready before beginning EMDR processing.Together, we'll decide on an approach that feels right for you. We'll explore the experiences, patterns or beliefs that may be influencing how you feel today, at a pace that feels manageable. Our first session is also an opportunity for you to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me, because feeling understood, safe and accepted is an important part of the counselling process.
