About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes life feels difficult. You may be struggling with painful or confusing feelings, overwhelmed with anxiety, or weighed down by depression. Perhaps you are looking for support with a difficult life situation, or maybe you would like help thinking about events from your past which are troubling you. Perhaps you are interested in understanding yourself better and getting a different perspective.

There are many different reasons why people come for therapy. Whatever your reason, if you are interested in thinking deeply about your situation and in understanding more about yourself, then I might be able to help. I offer psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy. Essentially, this is a conversation between the two of us which helps you to explore and understand yourself at a deeper level, enabling you to make sense of your feelings and feel freer to live your life in the present. It can help you to navigate your difficulties, gain a sense of perspective, and find a way forward.

Practice description

I am a qualified, experienced psychodynamic practitioner. I have a Diploma and an Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, a Certificate of Higher Education in Counselling and Counselling Skills, and an MA from the University of Oxford.

I work psychodynamically, which means that together we will think deeply about the issues that are concerning you. It is up to you what you wish to explore, and I will not set any particular agenda. What I will do is listen and try to help you make sense of the difficulties you are experiencing. This often involves thinking not only about your current situation but also about things from the past that may be affecting you. My aim is to help you to gain more self-awareness and so empower you to lead a richer, more meaningful and more present life.

The relationship between the two of us is central to the work that we do together. I aim to create an empathic, non-judgemental working relationship, helping you to feel safe to trust me with your thoughts and feelings. I will always treat you with the utmost respect, listen to you, and aim to understand things from your point of view, while at the same time offering you the benefit of my thinking and perspective.

My first session

If you are interested to find out more, please contact me for a free telephone consultation of around 15 minutes. This would be an informal conversation to explore your situation briefly, get a feel for what it might be like to work together, and answer any initial questions you might have. There is no obligation to proceed any further after this if you don't want to.

The next step would be to arrange a consultation session, to give us the chance to think in more detail about your situation, your background and what you hope to get from therapy. If we decide together that it feels right to proceed after this, then we will arrange a time to start your weekly 50-minute long sessions, either in person or online, to suit your preference.
