About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor, with a background in Psychology and Social Work. I work in-person in BRISTOL and ONLINE/telephone across the UK. I recognise that making the initial step to finding a counsellor takes courage and it feels like a 'leap of faith' to trust a complete stranger. I will provide you with a confidential space for you to feel safe to talk about your worries and struggles. I offer you my non-judgmental care, a protected time to simply 'be', and to express yourself and feel truly heard.

You may experience the weight of your emotions or pain of your trauma/loss like a heavy suitcase or backpack that you carry around constantly. Carrying such a heavy load is exhausting. Working with me as your therapist, we can create a route to lightening the load. It may be that you are seeking to find meaning, fulfilment and connection in your life; a sense of purpose or wanting to find calm and acceptance. You may be wanting to explore your current relationships or understand experiences from when you were younger. We can work together to gain insight, personal growth and self-compassion.

Practice description

I view each person with whom I work, as a unique individual, so the counselling relationship we create is individual too. There is no prescriptive and rigid approach, we come together with openness and create a partnership based on respect, kindness, curiosity, empathy and care.

I believe that the therapeutic process works best if it is fluid and we are willing to see what develops. As an Integrative therapist, I use my training in psychodynamic, humanistic and compassion focussed models, alongside using some cognitive behavioural (CBT) techniques, but only if it feels useful and fits your needs. Essentially, I work relationally, paying close attention to our human attachment needs, our survival adaptations and nervous system responses and working in a trauma informed way to keep you feeling safe.

Psychotherapy is not a quick fix and seeking to change patterns of thinking and behaviour which emerged through our childhood relating, can be emotionally demanding, but also energising. I can be alongside you as your story unfolds, assisting you as you come to understand yourself more fully, exploring the challenges you are currently facing, until you are where you want to be.

I have worked with several hundred people over the years. Many have experienced prolonged low mood, anxious thoughts, feelings and behaviours, low self-esteem, strong emotional responses, loss, grief, family and relationship struggles, difficult childhood experiences, were separated from birth family in childhood, have had fertility concerns, workplace stress, or experienced challenges with neurodiversity. I work in a non-labelling, non-pathologising way and aim to share a position of acceptance in all that we are.

My first session

I aim to respond to new requests within 24 hours during weekdays, but may take slightly longer at weekends. I offer a free 20 minute telephone chat for you to get a sense of whether I am the right therapist for you and whether I can offer what you need.
