I work online via Zoom and offer sessions to clients across the UK and internationally. My earliest appointments begin at 6:30am GMT, which suits clients based in Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and beyond.
In-person sessions in East London are also available on request.
Sessions are held weekly at a fixed day and time. This consistency is intentional. The therapeutic relationship develops in the space between sessions as much as within them, and a reliable rhythm supports that.
I have particular depth of experience in relationships and relational patterns, body image, and disordered eating. Anxiety and burnout are also central to my work, particularly for people who appear to be functioning well on the outside while struggling significantly within. I also work with low mood, trauma, grief, self-esteem, identity, and life transitions. My practice is women-centred and LGBTQIA+ affirming, and all are welcome.
I work from an integrative and somatic foundation, drawing on approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and body-based practice.
Current availability: I have a small number of spaces available for new clients. To enquire, please visit kaespencer.com or use the contact form on this profile.
About me and my therapy practice
I’m Kae Spencer, a BACP-registered integrative psychotherapist and somatic practitioner. My specialist areas are relationships, body image, and the full spectrum of eating difficulties, including eating disorders, disordered eating, and emotional eating patterns. I also work with burnout, shame, anxiety, depression, trauma, self-worth, identity, and life transitions.
Relationships are central to my work. This includes romantic relationships, repeating patterns, rupture and disconnection, and the grief or relief that follows endings. It also includes the relationship with yourself: the inner critic, shame, and feeling not enough.
Body image and eating difficulties are another core focus. This includes distress around appearance, disconnection from the body, and the full spectrum from restrictive to emotionally driven eating patterns. My focus is on the emotional and relational roots of these experiences.
I also offer psychological support for people who find that when their relationship with food changes, through medication or otherwise, deeper feelings begin to surface around identity, coping, body image, and self-worth. This is not weight loss support. It is psychological and emotional support for what lies underneath.
My approach draws on compassion-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, person-centred therapy, CBT, and somatic practice. Mind and body together. Sessions are guided by what you bring. The pace is yours.
I hold a PgDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Level 7 from the University of East London, with post-qualifying training in relationships, eating disorders, body image, trauma, and somatic work.
My practice is women-centred and LGBTQIA+ affirming. Sessions online via Zoom, available internationally, from 6:30am GMT, with in-person sessions in East London on request. Free 15-minute consultation available.
Practice description
My practice is integrative and somatic, which means I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches and work with both mind and body. I bring structure and direction to the work while remaining responsive to what you bring each week. The pace is yours, but we are always moving somewhere.
I work relationally. The therapeutic relationship itself is part of the work. Over time, that relationship can become a place to notice and explore the patterns that show up in other relationships too. Much of what plays out between people in their lives will eventually show up in the room, and that is useful information.
I am direct and warm in equal measure. I will not simply reflect back what you say. I will engage with you, offer observations, and sometimes gently challenge. I will also sit with you in the harder moments without rushing to fix or reframe. Therapy with me is not about being told what to do. It is about developing a clearer, more compassionate relationship with yourself and with others.
Somatic work is woven throughout. The body carries a great deal that words alone do not always reach. I may invite attention to what is happening physically as we talk, not as an exercise, but as another way of listening to what is true for you.
Sessions are 50 or 80 minutes, held weekly at a fixed day and time. Consistency matters in this work. I work both short and longer term depending on what is needed, and we will review regularly.
I work with adults only. My practice is women-centred and LGBTQIA+ affirming, and I welcome all who resonate with my approach.
Sessions are held online via Zoom. In-person sessions are available on request in East London. I work internationally, with appointments available from 6:30am GMT to accommodate clients across different time zones.
Fee: £90 for 50 minutes, £135 for 80 minutes. A concession rate is available; please ask if you think you may be eligible.
My first session
The first session is an assessment session. It works differently to ongoing therapy and is an important part of how we begin.
I will ask you about what has brought you to therapy at this point in your life, what you are hoping to get from the work, and something of your personal history. This is not an interrogation. It is a conversation, and you can share as much or as little as feels right at this stage. Nothing you say will be judged and there are no wrong answers.
This session gives me what I need to understand your situation properly, to begin forming a picture of you as a whole person, and to think about how we might work together most effectively. It is the foundation everything else is built on.
It is also a chance for you to experience what being in a session with me actually feels like. The 15-minute consultation gives you a sense of me, but the first full session goes deeper. You will leave with a clearer sense of what the work ahead could look like and what becomes possible when you have the right space to do it in.
Most people feel a sense of relief after this session. Something has been named, witnessed, and taken seriously. That in itself can be significant.
The first session is charged at the standard rate: £90 for 50 minutes or £135 for 80 minutes.
