About me and my therapy practice
I have a special interest in working with people who are wanting to think about Autism, Asperger's or ADHD.
People have come to see me to explore who they may be under masks they have adopted, to ease stuck patterns in relationships, to make sense of the impact of early experiences, to find ways of living more freely with less anxiety and to understand needs to please others.
I work with individuals and couples on short and long term bases.
Whatever it is you wish to attend to, our work is collaborative and at your own pace. My job is to listen, to think with you, and to develop new meanings together. Our work can invoke creativity in all its many forms, humour, silence and wonder, as much as it involves the pains we experience in our lives.
By offering a thoughtful, creative space to explore and understand your situation there is the potential for new perspectives to arise and for your living to find new shapes.
Practice description
Many neurodivergent people have had poor experiences of therapeutic work with innate styles of thinking, processing and behaving being misunderstood or worse, pathologised. Part of the work may involve looking at what it has meant for you to be part of a (often unrecognised) minority subject to the norms of a majority. Constant attempts in ourselves to correct course can have significant consequences - loss of contact with authentic self, overwhelm and depression. We can work to draw up new maps which honour the unique ways you need to live.
Within us all I believe there's a natural energy for growth: I see my job to work collaboratively with you, an individual or a couple, to create an environment where that energy can do its work.
Sometimes the work may be slow and perhaps challenging but it will always be at your own pace. Behind the scenes therapy can allow processes to take place for the better - an increased sense of wholeness and vitality can emerge. Paradoxically, there is change but you are the same. Understandings have happened.
If you’re new to therapy, it may be a sizeable step to reach out. It's also a huge investment in vitality. At the heart of my practice is the belief that through meeting regularly and being curious about your experience, an inevitable process of growth will unfold.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute phone or video call to talk about what you're wanting: we won't be doing any therapy and there's no obligation to book another appointment.
If we agree to work together my fees are £60 per hour for individual therapy and £100 per hour for couples.
There may be concessionary slots available - please enquire.
