About me and my therapy practice
Maybe your life has changed significantly, and you're struggling to adapt?
Maybe you have a dilemma and you don’t know what to do?
Maybe you want to improve your life or relationships but don’t know where to start?
Maybe you struggle with a mental health issue, and you’ve heard counselling could help?
My name’s Josie and I’m an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor working online from my base in Worcester. I’ve previously provided counselling and therapy for various agencies and charities, including NHS-commissioned services, and worked as an alcohol dependence coach-therapist. Before training in counselling and psychotherapy, I worked in mental health and wellbeing in various other roles, including specialist support work, youth work and advocacy. I also have experienced significant mental health issues and adversity in my teens and early adulthood and have personal experience of neurodivergence. These experiences inform my work and make me passionate about providing the best possible support when people need it most.
My job is to be non-judgmental, to explore things from your point of view and understand what you’re experiencing.
In sessions, we work together to:
- Make sense of what’s going on
- Process difficult emotions
- Look for patterns
- Break down problems
- Look at how your past impacts the present
- Find solutions
Practice description
In my practice I see adults, teenagers and older adults. My counselling style is pluralistic - that is, I adapt my approach depending upon what a client needs, but it’s underpinned by person-centred principles - which mean that I prioritise being non-judgemental, working hard to understand your point of view, and being authentically myself (as opposed to a ‘blank screen’ type of therapist).
Some areas I commonly work with:
- Navigating relationships
- Transitions and change, including young adulthood
- Loss and bereavement
- Working to understand and challenge unhelpful coping mechanisms (such as drinking, overeating, self harm, etc)
- Improving coping strategies
- M.E./CFS, and living with chronic health issues and/or disability
- Exploring neurodivergence
- Recovery from abusive relationships
- Exploring identity (including gender and sexuality; LGBTQIA+ and poly-friendly)
- Rebuilding trust and self-esteem after iatrogenic harm (harm caused by mental health services, previous therapists, social services, etc.)
- Mandatory therapy sessions when training as a counsellor/psychotherapist/counselling psychologist
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute consultation (by phone or videocall) where you’re welcome to ask any questions you might have about therapy, about me, or my practice, and for us to chat to see if I might be the right therapist to help you.
