About me and my therapy practice
Addressing specific habits and patterns of thinking can have a significant impact on your self-esteem, self-worth, self-reliance and self-awareness. I have experience working with clients to find meaning in problems expereinced within areas such as stress, anxiety, low self esteem, relationship issues (self or others), sexual identity, sexuality, masculine embodiment, depression, sadness, loss and grief, suicidal thoughts.
I feel that coming to therapy can be daunting as clients often do not know what to expect. I like to talk this through with clients and make sure that they feel safe and secure, and we can build a therapeutic relationship together. I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which the you can explore your thoughts, feelings and nervous system regulation, allowing you to understand more about yourself and your relationships with others at your own pace.
Somatic Trauma Therapy is a very effective way of working with the physical and emotional distress that trauma can cause. It works with the impact on the body of sudden or cumulative trauma, which can manifest through a range of physical and emotional symptoms, by bringing attention to the physical sensations of the body and using slow movements and verbal guidance to reduce levels of anxiety or fear.
It can be used by anyone working with individuals that display symptoms of trauma.
Practice description
Hi I'm Tony. I am a Person-Centred and non-directive Therapist. As a client you work at your own pace and only bring to the session what you want. I work with a diverse range of people to address specific habits, patterns of thinking and nervous system regulation through somatic trauma therapy. This can have a significant impact on your self-esteem, self-reliance, self-awareness, recognising the connection between thoughts, emotions, and the body. I am non-judgmental, empathetic and congruent.
I am fully qualified in the person-centred modality and work with an integrative approach . I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
I believe positive change and growth comes when you are given the opportunity to engage in a process that helps you develop new awareness and value for yourself. Together we will work on emotional distress and the symptoms that have prompted you to seek counselling.
Trauma originates in the nervous system and its ability to deal with stressful events - it does not originate in the event itself. The protective barrier present in the person disappears and leads to overwhelming feelings of helplessness, loss of control and intense fear.
My first session
I provide a 30 minute free initial telephone consultation to discuss your needs and wants prior to committing to a face-to-face or online appointment. This also gives you the opportunity to see if there is a connection. I believe you need to good connection to work together.
