About me and my therapy practice
JUST BETWEEN US
Hi I'm Jo, I have worked in educational settings for 15 years before going on to further myself in a counselling role. I currently I support 2 schools with which I have a DBS certificate to enable me to do this. I also have my private practice which I run from home, enabling me to have a flexible approach by offering remote and face to face counselling to a diverse set of clients. I have gained lots of experience dealing with self- harm, friendship/family dynamics, couple relationships, loss and bereavement, stress, anxiety, self-esteem and confidence, to name a few. My counselling placement was at MIND where I worked with elders, adults and teens. I attend many courses to complement the varied issues I come across with clients that help me broaden my knowledge.
I am a BACP registered counsellor, my course was also accredited by the BACP, and I am fully insured. I offer a humanistic person-centred approach, whist incorporating other modalities such as C.B.T (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Solution focussed therapy, mindfulness and coaching if needed, to get the most from our sessions.
The sessions are tailored specifically to your needs as everyone is individual and I feel what could work for one person might not be the same for another. I find that I am a natural empathic person who can easily put myself in your frame of reference, with a non- judgemental outlook on our time spent with each other. My aim is to explore your presenting issue whilst applying theory and working together to establish the best way forward to enable you to manage your issue independently in the future.
I have been lucky to be able to facilitate others in many walks of life by using my counselling skills and hope to do the same with you at "Just Between Us".
Practice description
Taking that first step to therapy takes courage, and one I'm sure you will try to talk your way out of but isn't it best to try than to not have tried at all. It's your counselling session and you have the ownership on how you want it to turn out.
I will provide a safe confidential place for you to express your needs without interrupting your flow and talking about myself, which I know can happen lots in life when discussing our worries.
I aim to help you become clearer about your problems while finding strategies and solutions to help you grow and manage them more effectively, incorporating the therapeutic core conditions of counselling needed for change- unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence all delivered by the therapist to be received by the client.
I reflect on my practice by thinking "what would I want from therapy" with this in mind I provide a safe inviting space that's heated, toilet facilities, accessible parking where I come out to meet you at every session, and a mix of remote/ face to face counselling if need be. There is also great transport links which are 5 min away.
I offer a free 15/30 min telephone consultation for us to engage and see if we can work together, giving you chance to ask any questions regarding the session.
I believe that counselling should be accessible to all so therefore offer a reduced rate to Students and Senior citizens.
My first session
Our first session will comprise of getting to know each other, agreement of a contract about how we will work together and what can be expected. Establishing what you require from the sessions, your goals and telling your story in a safe place.
The sessions usually last 50 min and are on a weekly basis, although this is flexible. I can provide face to face counselling from my office and telephone or remote throughout the country.
