About me and my therapy practice

Hi. Thank you for stopping on my page.

My name, as you will have seen, is Clair and I am a Person-Centred (you are your own expert) Counsellor. I am Scottish which makes me laugh as I am typing this but people often seem surprised!

I am a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work within the guidelines of their Ethical Framework which ensures a professional, confidential, trusting relationship.

In a world full of uncertainty and change, I offer a safe space to explore any difficulties, worries or anxieties you may be facing. I am non-judgemental as I sit alongside you exploring challenges with an empathic and honest approach.

I know personally how powerful it can be to have someone sitting with you, who truly sees you and hears you, and this is what I aim to offer within every session, hopeful that you can take positive steps towards a more manageable, fulfilling future.

Client testimonies:

“You have helped me enormously! I feel much stronger as I think in a way the difficult times were a test I now know I can pass.”

“I feel like I was stuck behind a wall before I came here. It’s like I’ve taken the bricks down one by one and I can see over the top.”

Practice description

Although predominantly Person-Centred, I sometimes offer alternative ways of working together, integrating CBT techniques, Psychoeducation, Art Therapy as well as Inner-Child Therapy, should I feel this could be beneficial. This will, of course, be led by you.

I have experience of working with trauma, abuse, gender/identity, bereavement, neurodiversity and more within both private practice as well as within a charitable organisation. I work with young people and adults.

My first session

I work face-to-face within the Huddersfield area, yet having completed extensive training in online and telephone counselling, I can offer this approach as an alternative to face-to-face or simply as a way to hold our therapeutic relationship at times where we are unable to meet.

For young people under 18, I offer - with the client's agreement -space for a parent/carer to attend the initial session where an assessment and contract will be undertaken.

Being unique with unique issues to explore, I offer short-term and long-term therapy.
