About me and my therapy practice
My Approach
As a humanistic person-centred counsellor, I trained in this approach and believe the person-centred way of being in life in a holistic capacity. Counselling that values and provides acceptance for a person is an integral part of this theory and offers key core conditions for the therapeutic relationship, such as congruence- being genuine, open, unconditional positive regard, empathic, understanding and non-judgemental.
I believe that everyone has the answer within themselves to resolve situations and problems that they are facing. No matter how difficult it might seem, through exploring the issues together with a shared value and belief, the answers and strength can be found from within yourself. Taking time to understand your true needs is a vital component of this shared experience, as is confidentiality.
Practice description
Person-Centred Therapy
A person-centred, humanistic counsellor is a non-directive therapist who views you as the expert on your own life. Rather than offering clinical advice, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space to help you explore your thoughts and find your own solutions to personal challenges. This approach rests on the idea that every individual has an innate drive toward growth and fulfilling their potential.
The Core Conditions
Empathy: I truly understand your internal world and see things from your perspective.
Unconditional Positive Regard: You are accepted completely without judgment or criticism.
Congruence: I am genuine, authentic, and transparent with you.
What to Expect in a Session
Client-led Pace: You decide what to bring to each session and what you want to discuss.
Active Listening: I will listen deeply, reflect your feelings, and help you untangle your thoughts without dictating your actions.
Self-Exploration: Over time, you will build greater self-awareness, improve your self-esteem, and learn to trust your own instincts.
My first session
Step 1:
I will arrange a convenient time for an initial FREE 20-minute informal consultation to find out what brings you to therapy, what your goals are and how the counselling process works.
Step 2:
If you feel we are a ‘good fit’ and I can support you, we can arrange our first counselling session.
Step 3:
During this session, I will take some basic information (contact details, mental health/medical history/family/relationships). We will discuss what difficulties you face, whether you want to talk about the past or the present and focus on behaviours or thoughts. At the end of this session, you’ll understand what is involved, and I will provide you with a standard client contract that sets out the main expectations and boundaries for the therapeutic relationship.
Step 4:
After the forms are completed, therapy can begin. We will work closely together, building trust and confidence, enabling you to articulate and process difficult experiences and emotions. You will be talking in a safe space without judgement. During our sessions, you will start to reappraise your thoughts, feelings, actions, values and strengths, so that you can understand your situation in your own way, unlock your potential, and overcome your difficulties.
