About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working in private practice, with extensive experience supporting individuals through local charities in the Torbay area. My specialisms include mental health counselling, career change psychotherapy, and relationship psychotherapy. I use the integration of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic counselling to provide a flexible and tailored approach.

Clients often describe me as empathetic, effective, and supportive. I aim to offer a calm and safe space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued. Whether you're navigating mental health challenges, career transitions, or relationship difficulties, I bring kindness, compassion, and warmth to help you explore your experiences and work toward meaningful change.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you're standing at a crossroads or grappling with uncertainty. Perhaps you're feeling disconnected from yourself or others, longing for more meaning and fulfilment. You might be navigating challenges such as dissatisfaction in relationships, the emotional aftermath of a job loss, or the struggle to find balance in a busy life. These experiences can leave you feeling stuck, anxious, or unsure of your next steps.

As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I offer a space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Together, we can make sense of what’s going on for you, whether it’s anxiety, depression, chronic stress, or the weight of a major life decision. I am here to help you reconnect with your sense of purpose, strengthen your relationships, and build the confidence to move forward in a way that feels right for you.

My first session

Before our first session, we will have had an initial telephone consultation to make sure I’m the right fit for you and your needs. This is a chance for you to ask any questions about therapy, and for me to get a sense of what has brought you to this point.

Our first session is all about getting to know each other and beginning to build a therapeutic relationship - whether it’s for career change psychotherapy, counselling for mental health, or relationship counselling. We’ll explore the main themes you’d like to work on, and I’ll take some notes to help map out your goals. These could be weekly or fortnightly, depending on what feels right for you, and they’ll give us something to focus on as we move forward. You’ll also be asked to sign the therapeutic agreement so that we’re both clear on how we’ll work together.

If we’re meeting face-to-face, we’ll begin by reflecting on your journey to the session and how you’ve been feeling leading up to this moment. If we’re meeting online, I’ll check in with how it feels to start therapy and make sure your space is private and comfortable.

During the session, I’ll keep track of time for us - 50 minutes for individual therapy or 90 minutes for relationship counselling - and I’ll pay attention to non-verbal cues as well as what you’re saying. Many clients tell me the time flies by, which often shows how absorbed we are in the process.

At the end of the session, I’ll ask for your feedback and suggest some goals for you to think about before we meet again. These are always flexible and designed to help you feel more in control of your journey.
