About me and my therapy practice

My name is Mary, and I’m a counsellor/psychotherapist. I offer counselling alongside eco-therapy and outdoor wellbeing. I’m based in the beautiful area of the south Lakes in Cumbria.

I am a person-centred therapist, and my aim is to provide you with a warm, compassionate, and empathic relationship. Clients often describe me as calm and gentle.

I have a passion for how nature and the outdoors can enhance our mental well-being. And, whether we work inside or out, I like to offer the opportunity to bring nature into our sessions. This might be through poetry, seasonal reflections, or guided meditation.

I also view mental wellbeing holistically, and can work with you to explore the interconnections between mind and body.

Practice description

People seek counselling for many reasons. Maybe you are in crisis right now and are feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you would like to think or behave differently, feel happier, identify the resources available to you, explore your choices in life, build your confidence, or feel as though you are fulfilling your potential. You can talk about anything in counselling. I will not judge you, no matter what you bring to our sessions. My aim is to create a trusting relationship, giving you time to be fully heard, and a space where hopefully you feel safe and comfortable enough to explore what’s troubling you.

I have a PgDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am a registered member (MBACP) of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means I am fully trained, undertake regular continuing professional development, and work to professional standards, including adhering to the BACP’s Ethical Framework.

I have experience of working with people who are struggling with a wide range of issues, including: anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, change and transition, as well as family/relationship difficulties. I have particular experience of working with self-harm and disordered eating.

I offer counselling indoors, outdoors, via telephone and online, and I work with individuals aged 14 and above.

I also offer outdoor wellbeing days.
