About me and my therapy practice
My approach is to deeply understand what causes disturbances and set an inspiring goal to enable and empower you to become unstuck and heal. We work to build:
• ways to calm, relax and self-care
• better ways to manage unhelpful thoughts and beliefs
• more awareness of what triggers you and how to respond, not react
• self-confidence, self-belief and resilience.
This is through exercises, self-reflection, role plays and visualisations. The aim is to provide you with a permanent and practical toolbox to move on from any disturbing emotions such anxiety, anger, guilt, shame and depression. Also, to overcome the effects of trauma, grief or unhelpful behaviours such as OCD, eating disorders or panic attacks.
The inspirational changes felt by clients and their heart-warming feedback have shown this tailored approach delivers results. Seeing this is incredibly rewarding and I am really keen to build a solid relationship with each client based on empathy, non judgement, trust and much care.
Let’s chat.
Practice description
The first steps are to fully listen and understand you as a person, then assess your disturbing emotion, the triggers that cause it and clarify the key problem faced. Together, we then agree a clear goal to manage the impact of the trigger and work to achieve the goal. This is through straight talking, some challenge and homework.
I am keen to build a solid relationship with each client based on empathy, trust and much care.
As a married father of two independent adults, I've experienced life's voyage with all its challenges. Learnings are shared where helpful to provide practical ways forward for clients. I also offer deep insight into the psychological challenges of work, applying experience from over 30 years in complex senior roles.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Integrative CBT/REBT (Distinction). Professional recognition includes being a Registered Member of the BACP and Accredited Member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NC&PS). In addition, a degree in Biochemistry helps explain the science of how we can become disturbed and to heal ourselves. Lastly, an MBA helps provide further insight into challenges we can face at work, and how to overcome them to thrive.
My first session
The first step when working together is for the client to complete a short assessment to build the understanding of you as a person and what makes you tick and gives you joy.
This is explored in the first few sessions, along with outlining the principles of emotional responsibility and change.
This helps you get ready to move forwards.
Sessions have a focus on “quick wins” and results, which involves understanding, straight talking, some work between sessions and a solid client relationship.
