Availability
I currently have availability for new clients for counselling and EMDR therapy.
I offer face-to-face sessions from my private therapy room at The Net Loft in Porthleven, Cornwall, near Helston, as well as online counselling and EMDR across the UK.
Sessions are 50 minutes and I offer a range of daytime and evening appointments where available.
I work particularly with men experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, stress and the impact of baby loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss. I also work with OCD, burnout, relationship difficulties and men who may simply feel stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from themselves.
You don't need to be certain that therapy is right for you before getting in touch. I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call, giving you an opportunity to tell me a little about what's happening, ask any questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right.
I also currently offer clinical supervision for trainee and qualified counsellors, face-to-face in Porthleven and online across the UK.
If I am due to take an extended period of leave, details will be added here.
Counselling & EMDR: £70 for 50 minutes
Clinical Supervision: £60 for 60 minutes / £90 for 90 minutes
Send me a message if you’re ready to talk, or even if you’re just thinking about it. That first step might feel big, but it could be the start of something better.
About me and my therapy practice
Many of the men I work with look like they're coping from the outside. They go to work, support their family and keep life moving, while underneath feeling anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted or disconnected.
Maybe your mind never really switches off. You overthink things, replay conversations or worry about what might happen next. Perhaps you're more irritable than you used to be, withdrawing from people or feeling flat and unlike yourself. Or something has happened in your past that you've tried to move on from, but it continues to affect you.
I'm Lee Martin, a BACP Accredited Counsellor and EMDR Accredited Practitioner. I offer men's counselling and EMDR therapy in Porthleven, Cornwall, near Helston, as well as online therapy across the UK.
I specialise in working with men experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, alongside stress, burnout, OCD, relationship difficulties and feeling stuck or lost.
I also have a particular interest in supporting men and fathers affected by baby loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss. This is an area I understand both professionally and personally, and I'm the author of Still His Dad: A Father's Story of Baby Loss.
Therapy with me is down-to-earth and collaborative. I integrate counselling, CBT and EMDR, depending on what you need and what we're trying to achieve.
I don't expect you to walk through the door and immediately tell me everything. Trust takes time. We start wherever you are and work at your pace.
You don't need to have the right words, a diagnosis or even be certain that therapy is for you. Sometimes the starting point is simply knowing that something isn't right and you don't want to keep feeling this way.
I offer face-to-face sessions from my private therapy room at The Net Loft in Porthleven, and online sessions throughout the UK.
If you've been carrying things on your own for a long time, we can start with a conversation and work out what might help.
Practice description
Starting therapy can feel unfamiliar, particularly if you're used to dealing with things yourself. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to talk about or how to explain what you're feeling.
I offer a relaxed, down-to-earth and collaborative approach to therapy. Our first sessions are about getting to know you, understanding what's been happening and exploring what you would like to be different.
There is no pressure to open up before you're ready. I don't expect you to trust me simply because I'm a therapist. Trust is something we build together over time.
My approach is integrative, drawing on counselling, CBT and EMDR therapy. This means we aren't limited to one way of working. Sometimes having space to talk and understand what's happening is important. At other times we may explore patterns of thinking or behaviour that are keeping you stuck.
Where trauma or difficult experiences from the past continue to affect you in the present, EMDR therapy may allow us to work more directly with those experiences.
We'll regularly consider whether therapy is helping and what you need from our work together. Therapy isn't something that's done to you. We'll make decisions collaboratively and work at a pace that feels manageable.
I work particularly with men experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, stress, burnout and baby loss, alongside other difficulties including OCD, relationships, confidence and significant changes in life.
Face-to-face sessions take place in my private therapy room at The Net Loft in Porthleven, Cornwall, near Helston. I also offer online counselling and EMDR across the UK.
Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £70.
If you're unsure whether counselling or EMDR would be right for you, you're welcome to arrange a free 15-minute introductory call. You don't need to commit to therapy. It's simply a chance for us to talk and see whether working together feels right.
My first session
Before booking your first full session, I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call. This gives you a chance to tell me a little about what's been happening, ask questions and get a sense of whether I might be the right therapist for you. There's no obligation to continue afterwards.
If we decide to work together, your first session lasts 50 minutes and costs £70, the same as subsequent sessions.
You don't need to prepare anything or arrive knowing exactly what to say. We'll start by talking about what has brought you to therapy, what's happening in your life now and what you would like to be different.
I'll also ask some questions about your history, current circumstances and wellbeing so that we can begin building an understanding of what's going on and decide together how we might work.
If you're interested in EMDR therapy, we won't simply jump straight into processing difficult memories. We'll spend time understanding your experiences, considering appropriate targets and making sure you have the preparation and resources needed before beginning EMDR work.
Most importantly, the first session is also an opportunity for you to get a feel for me.
I don't expect you to trust me immediately or tell me everything in the first hour. Trust takes time, and we'll work at a pace that feels right for you.
Sessions are available face-to-face at The Net Loft in Porthleven, Cornwall, near Helston, and online across the UK.
If you've never had therapy before and feel nervous about that first session, that's completely okay. You don't need to know how to “do therapy”. Just turn up as you are and we'll start from there.
