Practice description

Psychotherapy can offer the opportunity to explore, with the help of another mind, the aspects of life that may be presenting particular challenges. By meeting regularly and thinking together in a confidential space, psychotherapy can help to generate a deeper understanding of the dynamics that may underlie your emotional life, thought processes, and patterns of relating.

In addition to the question of 'how' these aspects of your experience take their shape, psychotherapy can also involve the attempt to understand 'why'. A psychodynamic approach to therapy acknowledges that many of the things which influence our experience may not always be immediately accessible to conscious awareness. It also takes into account that deep change can take time and require frequent contact; individuals in this kind of therapy would normally be seen at least once a week for a year or more.

The rich understanding of the mind that's given the opportunity to develop through this kind of work can ultimately open up a greater capacity for choice in how we live, think, and relate.
