About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integrative Therapist/ Counsellor (terms are interchangeable) currently registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I currently also hold a clean DBS and continue to attend professional development courses to broaden the horizons of my therapeutic skills.

In the session, I present as a facilitator of therapeutic exploration and understanding. Offering you empathy, acceptance, and a safe environment to express freely during the sessions by actively listening to, understanding your story with a non-judgmental attitude. The purpose is to encourage self-reflection, introspection through challenging fault thoughts/feelings by offering alternative theoretical standpoints for your consideration to support you in understanding your current narrative. The eventual aim is to allow the client to get in touch with their inner self in order to actualise on their inherent potential and overcome obstacles.

The approach I use is an integration of Psychodynamic, CBT, and humanistic-existential processes, along with which I incorporate grounding, art-based, and mindfulness based techniques. This allows me to creatively tailor each client’s journey with respect to the needs they present and enable them to gradually become independent. The sessions observe the bio-psycho-social feedback within the client to identify their struggles (e.g, stress, trauma, anxiety, motivation, relationship issues etc.), help them become grounded and more aware of their own patterns of behaviour, feelings, and thought. Within this process, the increase in insight allows the clients a calm, and informed approach to addressing the situation at hand. The client centred and client led process is geared towards understanding your story, through understanding and embracing your current and past experiences.

By fostering therapeutic collaboration, clients are empowered through increased insight, self awareness.

Practice description

There may be a variety of different needs, goals, and obstacles. There is no one size that fits all, which is why I aspire to tailor everyone's journey as per what they bring along. I have a rich history of working in mental health which has exposed me to a variety of people and situations. I build on my breadth of knowledge and experience to best serve every client with a tool-kit of evidence based techniques in the safety of therapeutic exchange whilst respecting each clients’ confidentiality, boundaries.

My practice has reflected how the mere act of listening to someone openly, supportively in a non-judgemental manner can allow a channel of powerful catharsis to occur. Therapeutic listening coupled with psycho-educating clients allows deeper insight to develop for the client.

The sessions run on the basic principles of active listening which I aspire to impart throughout each client’s journey. In listening to you, I may at times enquire with questions or present challenging viewpoints. The idea is to break down the larger challenges being faced by the individuals and present them as smaller chunks to be tackled through our sessions and outside of them. Thereby over time, enabling the client to extrapolate the skill of objectively approaching life's presenting situations and tackle them in a grounded manner.

Often the simple act of becoming aware can bring about the necessary preconditions of being able to embrace and rewrite your own narrative. Whether it be for a one-off session, short term or long term support, the simple act of expressing your story and being heard can be the beginning to a transformative and healing process. Therapeutic exchange in a confidential, accepting, and trusting environment leads to the clearing out of trauma and replaces it with healing, clarity, and positive change.

Please get in touch to discuss things further.

My first session

Initial contact- Free of charge

If requested, I will contact you via email/phone call (depending on the client's preference). This is to provide a basic overview of therapy, and answer any questions you may have about me and my practice. The initial conversation is aimed at reassuring the client and allowing you to gauge if I am a right fit for you to work with, as therapy is a very personal, intricate process.

The First Session-

The first session is a 50 minute introduction to the structure of the therapy, an explanation of confidentiality and therapeutic boundaries. It is also aimed at completing a base-level needs assessment, this will help me in understanding what you would like to explore during our sessions, your expectations from therapy, and for us to establish any goals that you may have.

We will also discuss, and sign the counselling contract - this helps you as the client, in developing an understanding of the counselling process, what to expect from it, agreeing to the frequency of the sessions, and ask any questions you may wish to ask.

The therapeutic environment during sessions is primarily grounded in the client centred, collaborative pursuit of enabling my clients to harness their inherent potential to meet their therapeutic goals. I aspire to bring together the clients' mind, body and soul in order to address any obstacles in their mental, behavioural, social and emotional health. Therefore, through the sessions the client leads the way in helping me understand their story. The gradual increase in insight allows the development of a grounded approach which aids the process of facing the challenges and overcoming them collaboratively, in a secure, accepting and non-judgmental space.
