About me and my therapy practice

I have worked in mental health community teams 1991 - 2020 as a Senior Mental Health Practitioner, counsellor at GP surgeries, Warwickshire and now offer private counselling since retiring from the NHS. I also run courses in Managing ANXIETY with YOGA and SOMATICS.

I love helping people find their way to overcome the disabling impact trauma and abuse have on the mind, body and spirit. The combination of Counselling and body orientated Somatics and Yoga WORKS WONDERFULLY.

I love helping people to manage challenging life situations, regulate emotional responses such as anger, fear, anxiety and can use creative techniques from my training in Integrative Arts in Education and Therapy (london 2000) to enable the healing.

I offer: counselling sessions that can include mindfulness, the use of imagery, breathing techniques to regulate anxiety, relaxation to de-stress. These approaches can help massively in focussing the mind helping one to think clearly and often come to decision making easier. My approach is client centred with emphasis on helping you to restore balance and a sense of being centred in your life.

I have a background as a Yoga and Somatics teacher.

Children from the ages of five years can come for regular short Play therapy sessions. Play therapy helps build self esteem and allows  freedom of expression using the toys and sand tray in the room. PLAY THERAPY is an excellent way to help people have freedom of expression, all ages not just children.

Practice description

Humanistic counselling is a wonderful tool for helping one find the tools to manage ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, TRAUMA, PSYCHOLOGICAL and EMOTIONAL problems. It gives one the chance to explore and heal; difficult to manage scenarios, fears, emotional swings, in a safe and confidential space. The process of self discovery that happens during this type of counselling is heart warming and brings you back into centre with yourself reviving self confidence.

In addition to humanistic counselling I am trained in: Sand Tray, Play therapy, Interactive Drawing Therapy, Imagework, Emotional Freedom Technique (commonly known as EFT), Yoga therapy, Somatics, Family Constellations.

Walking and talking is a technique on offer to clients. The connection with nature can be very beneficial. Getting out and about with support can also be extremely enabling.

I have a cliental which includes Children from the age of five years old with whom I use Play therapy. This is a great approach for helping children express feelings and emotions and build up a greater understanding through play, of how to deal with challenges in life.

My first session

Attending your first session is a great achievement. You have made a decision and followed it through. Well done! The unknown is always nerve racking but I want to reassure you that I use a non-judgemental, empathic approach inline with the client centred humanistic counselling of my training.

The key element of this first session is for you to feel safe and know that it is a confidential space in which to explore feelings and thoughts that cause you discomfort and pain. There will be no pressure on you to talk about things that cause you discomfort, this is something you will decide yourself. I will be helping to sort out with you what areas you need help with and how we can work together to help resolve the problem and or heal the issue.

The whole aim of this session is for you to feel comfortable in my presence and heard. This trusting connection between client and counsellor is so important and forms the base line of all therapy.
