About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Michelle.
If you're used to being the person everyone turns to, it can be difficult to make time for yourself or even know where to start when things begin to feel too much.
Whether you're experiencing anxiety, stress, burnout, trauma, grief, low mood, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges, you don't have to go through it alone.
I'm an Accredited BACP Counsellor with many years of experience, including working as a Senior Counsellor supporting NHS staff. I have supported people from many different backgrounds, including those working in healthcare, emergency services, education, the Armed Forces and other demanding professions, as well as anyone who is finding life difficult.
I offer a warm, compassionate and confidential space where you can be yourself and talk openly, without judgement or pressure. I know that asking for help isn't always easy, especially when you're used to putting other people's needs first.
My approach is mainly Person-Centred, and I also use EMDR, Compassion Focused Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy where these may be helpful. We'll work together at a pace that feels right for you, helping you to move forward in a way that feels manageable and right for where you are.
Practice description
I believe that therapy should feel supportive, compassionate and tailored to the individual sitting in front of me. My work is grounded in Person-Centred counselling, where building a safe and trusting relationship is at the heart of our work together. I also integrate EMDR, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Solution Focused Therapy where these may be helpful for your individual needs.
Much of my experience has been supporting people working in demanding roles, including healthcare, emergency services, education, the Armed Forces and other frontline professions. I understand that when you spend your time caring for others, making decisions under pressure, or constantly being the person people rely on, it can be difficult to recognise the impact this is having on your own wellbeing.
Compassion is an important part of how I work. Many people I meet are very hard on themselves, minimise what they are going through, or feel they should be coping better. Through therapy, we can begin to understand these patterns and develop a kinder, more supportive relationship with yourself.
I also recognise that trauma affects everyone differently. As an EMDR therapist, I work carefully and collaboratively, focusing first on helping you feel safe, supported and emotionally resourced before any trauma processing takes place.
My aim is to offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, feel understood, and work towards feeling more like yourself again.
My first session
Taking that first step and reaching out for support can feel difficult, especially if you're used to managing on your own. That's why I offer a free initial telephone or video call. It's an opportunity for us to have a chat, for you to tell me a little about what's bringing you to therapy, ask any questions you may have, and most importantly, see if you feel I'm the right therapist for you. Finding someone you feel comfortable with is an important part of the therapeutic process.
If you decide to book a first session, we'll take things at a pace that feels right for you. There is no expectation for you to tell me everything straight away, and there's no judgement. My aim is to provide a warm, compassionate and confidential space where you feel safe, listened to and supported.
During our first session, we'll explore what has brought you to therapy, what's happening for you at the moment, and what you hope to gain from our work together. I'll explain how I work and answer any questions you may have, so you know what to expect going forward.
If you're coming to therapy following trauma, there is no pressure to talk about your experiences in detail during our first session. Building trust, helping you feel safe and understanding your individual needs will always come first. We will work together at a pace that feels manageable and right for you.
