About me and my therapy practice
Is it time to talk to someone? Perhaps you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling to make sense of what is happening in your life.
I am an experienced integrative counsellor and psychotherapist with a Master's-level Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy (Dip MSc). I am registered with both UKCP and BACP and have also completed COSRT-accredited training in Relationship Therapy.
Clients often describe me as friendly, empathic and thoughtful.
Taking the first step into therapy can feel daunting. You may feel that you should simply carry on regardless, but you do not have to face life's challenges alone.
Therapy can help you gain clarity about what is troubling you, understand recurring patterns, and make meaningful changes that lead to a calmer and more fulfilling life. Together, we can explore the issues that are causing distress and work towards lasting change.
I offer therapy in person from my practice in St Albans, online via Zoom, and by telephone. There is plenty of free parking available.
Fees are £85 per session for individuals and £120 per session for couples. Reduced-fee places may be available for those on lower incomes (minimum fee £65). Counselling and psychotherapy students are charged £65 per session. Availability is limited.
Is it time to invest in your wellbeing and future?
Practice description
I work with adults and couples experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological and relationship difficulties. Whatever has brought you to therapy, my aim is to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space in which we can explore what is happening and find a way forward.
Alongside general psychotherapy, I have particular expertise in addiction and recovery, having worked for many years within specialist addiction services and as Deputy Group Counselling Manager at a respected treatment centre.
My specialist areas include anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction and recovery, codependency and people-pleasing, relationship difficulties, and the impact of significant life events.
I have extensive experience supporting individuals affected by alcohol dependency, substance misuse, gambling addiction, compulsive sexual behaviours, and the wider emotional and relational difficulties that often accompany addiction.
I also work with clients experiencing relationship breakdown, bereavement, redundancy, workplace difficulties, low self-esteem, stress, and major life transitions.
Therapy is your space. You are free to bring whatever feels important to you. I do not impose an agenda, and together we will work at a pace that feels safe, manageable and appropriate for your needs.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in business and experienced significant personal challenges, including alcoholism. These experiences eventually led me into therapy and later into the profession itself. While therapy is always focused on your experiences rather than mine, I believe that having faced my own difficulties can sometimes help me understand and empathise more deeply with the struggles that many people bring to therapy.
As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and tailor therapy to the individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model. Every client is unique, and I believe therapy should reflect that.
My first session
I offer a free initial telephone consultation of approximately 20 minutes. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy and allows you to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you.
There is no charge for this initial consultation.
The relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. It is natural to feel nervous when considering therapy, and the initial consultation provides an opportunity to ask questions, discuss your needs, and get a sense of how we might work together.
I strongly believe that every client deserves a confidential, safe and empathic space where they can feel genuinely heard and understood. Life can be difficult, even though we wish it were otherwise.
My aim is to help you gain greater understanding of yourself, develop resilience, and move towards a calmer, more fulfilled and more content version of yourself.
What I can help with
