About me and my therapy practice
My therapeutic approach is a blend of person-centred and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapies. My offering is grounded in compassion and empathy, bringing what is needed to a place of holding for you.
In our sessions we can together, explore whatever comes up for you. You may have specific areas you want to address; or issues in your life that need attention. The process of talking therapy can mean you are hearing yourself speak for the first time, to the challenges you face; they become real and more tangible. Gradually, the tangled yarn that your life may seem like becomes more ordered and easier to understand. I believe in providing a non-judgemental and accepting environment for you to express whatever it is that needs to be heard. The therapeutic relationship can be a powerful tool for understanding your patterns of relating to others and your ways of being. Through this understanding it is possible to change and grow, and I will be there to walk alongside you in that process. I believe strongly that I am welcoming of diversity and difference, and will always meet you in acceptance and respect for your identity.
Practice description
I am always led by my client, and therefore will be guided by how you are most comfortable working.
I can either work entirely using the IFS model and techniques, or similarly with a person-centred only approach, but there is crossover, and I find integrating both works well too.
It is wise to set some goals for therapy initially. We will review how the therapy is progressing at regular intervals agreed between yourself and me. I am open to altering and adjusting when needed, and try to remain as flexible as possible. I appreciate it when clients give me feedback about their expereince, if they are able to do this.
My first session
A first session with me is focussed on getting to know a little about you, and for you to be able to ask any questions you may have regarding therapy sessions, my experience etc.
I will also spend some time asking holistically centred questions, so we can both identify any areas of your life that may benefit from attention, in or out of therapy. This is because I recognise the need for overall wellbeing. For healthy bodies and minds, connection in relationships; and the strain that other factors such as housing, work and finances can place on us, and affect our overall wellbeing.
