About me and my therapy practice

I am a Nepalese-American counsellor and I use the psychodynamic approach to therapy. This means I work to help make sense of your world and any unconscious behaviours that may be shaping your life in a way that you’re finding unpleasant. This can show up in the form of explosive anger, panic attacks, or even non-responsive behaviour. Looking closely at this can sometimes feel difficult, which is why I approach this with you way that won’t seem as terrifying.

I provide a place to confidentially express things that wouldn’t be acceptable outside the four walls of my practise, to think aloud about feelings and thoughts buried deep inside, and a space to try to make sense of the swirling confusion that sometimes brings a person into the counselling room.

My background as a Southeast Asian counsellor from America contributes to my unique approach; I can understand the feeling of "otherness" which is the feeling of not quite belonging but not being different enough. I can open space to speak about prejudice, classism, sexuality, or abuse with both young people and adults alike who are facing naming such difficult periods in their life.

I have MSc Psychology and MA Psychodynamic Counselling degrees from the University of Essex.

When I am not in private practise at the Stockwell Centre, I work as a pre-bereavement counsellor in the hospice and community at St Helena Hospice.

Practice description

I offer online and face-to-face sessions, both short-term and long-term.  I work with young people, adults, and older adults.

Each session is held for 50 minutes on the same day and time, on a weekly basis.

You can expect me to be there consistently for you.

In case of emergency or illness, I will notify you immediately and if possible, will offer a replacement session at a time that is convenient for you.

Please note that my cancellation policy requires a 48-hour notice.

My first session

Our first session will be getting to know you which will include speaking about what has brought you into counselling, what your expectations are from counselling for yourself and what expectations you might have of me.

We may do a friend map or family tree to help me better understand the people who are most important to you.

There will be a confidentiality and information agreement to sign before we begin.

Payment should be paid either before or promptly after the session has finished.
