I offer counselling for both online and face-to-face clients.
I work Monday to Friday, with online sessions available throughout the UK and face-to-face in North East Hampshire (Farnborough/Farnham/Aldershot area).
About me and my therapy practice
You may already have a good understanding of yourself. You may recognise your patterns, know where some of your difficulties come from, or even know what you would like to change.
And yet, knowing something intellectually doesn’t always make it possible to do things differently.
Perhaps you keep finding yourself in similar relationships, responding to situations in familiar ways, being harder on yourself than you would be with anyone else, or experiencing emotions that feel difficult to understand.
You may feel stuck, disconnected from yourself or simply sense that there is more going on beneath the surface.
This is where therapy can offer something different
I am Sue, an experienced BACP registered Integrative Counsellor. I offer face-to-face therapy and online sessions via Zoom.
I provide a warm, respectful and reflective space where you can slow down, feel heard and become curious about what is really happening to you.
Exploring what lies beneath
I believe therapy can be about more than managing difficult feelings. Therapy can give us the opportunity to explore why certain patterns continue to repeat.
We might explore how earlier experiences have shaped the way you see yourself and your relationships, where the beliefs you carry come from, or whether ways of coping that once helped you might not be serving you now; but they are still in use.
You may already understand what you would like to change but find yourself unable to make that happen. Counselling can provide the space to explore that gap between feeling you know what needs to be done and being able to do things differently.
Taking the first step
I offer a free 30-minute introductory phone call so we can talk about what brings you to counselling, what you are looking for and whether you feel I might be the right counsellor for you.
If you feel ready to explore what is happening for you more deeply, I would be very happy to hear from you.
Practice description
My Approach
I am a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, drawing on person-centred, existential, experiential and Gestalt approaches. I believe that therapy is a dialogue. We will work collaboratively, allowing the work to develop at a pace that feels manageable for you, whilst remaining curious about the things that might have felt difficult to approach alone and added to the sense of being stuck.
I will listen with empathy and without judgement. Where appropriate, I invite you to consider something from a different perspective when I feel there is something worth exploring.
Sometimes meaningful work comes from staying with an emotion rather than immediately trying to change it or fix it. Sometimes it comes from fully understanding a pattern for the first time. And sometimes it comes from discovering that something you have struggled with in yourself makes more sense when viewed in the context of your experiences.
I aim to create a space where you can become curious about yourself rather than critical of yourself.
Depending on what brings you to counselling, we might explore relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, loss, difficult childhood experiences, trauma, identity, values or feeling disconnected from yourself and others.
You don’t need to know exactly what you want to explore before we begin.
Our therapy space is your time to meet regularly with a counsellor trained in listening with care and empathy to support the exploration of emotions that can hold you ‘hostage’ if left unexpressed; Experience has taught me that personal exploration is not something to be rushed. You are not broken and so I listen without judgement or expectation, I am here to witness and hold the space for you.
My first session
Many clients come in not sure exactly of what it is they want to work on, we work from where you are and through gentle exploration we find what support is most helpful to you at this moment.
This is a space where you will not be rushed through emotion to immediately find solutions.
If you feel supported, listened to, and at ease with me, we can discuss if you would like to continue our work together. Our sessions would be weekly and at the same time each week, this consistancy creates the therapeutic momentum that our work is carried on.
The first session is 50 minutes (as are all our sessions) and charged at the normal rate.
