About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Wendy, a counsellor specialising in pregnancy and baby loss. I work with individuals and couples who have experienced the death of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, perinatal loss, neonatal death, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and early infancy. I also work with pregnancy and parenting after loss and involuntary childlessness.

The death of a baby can be devastating, and it often triggers difficult feelings and emotions with the effects being long lasting for you and those around you, sometimes with relationships becoming strained. Maybe you feel you don’t want to burden family, friends or other people with what’s happened, but want to talk about your baby and your experience?

Perhaps you feel unsure of how to grieve, especially if your way of grieving feels different to everyone else? It can feel isolating when those around you don't seem to understand the depth of your pain or seem unwilling to talk about it.

Having worked with SANDS (the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity) for 13 years, I have a deep, personal understanding of how life-changing this grief can be and how different everyone's journey through it is.

Many clients say they want to get back to 'being themselves’ again but worry that their baby will be forgotten, or that life just doesn’t have the same meaning or purpose any more. I can help you voice your emotions so that you can move forward, enabling you get back to ‘being [a new] you’, regaining a new sense of purpose while keeping your baby in the hearts and minds of those who will walk alongside you in the years to come.

You may never ‘get over’ your loss, but with time and the right support it is possible to find a way forward. If you have lost a baby and would like to talk, please get in touch.

Practice description

My approach is grounded in humanistic and existential theories and is primarily person-centred. In practice, this means I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you.

I offer a warm, empathic and non-judgemental space, and I place great importance on building a deep, trusting and caring relationship so that you feel safe enough to share what is really going on for you.

Please visit my website for further details, but here is one recent testimonial:

“I can highly recommend Wendy as a warm, caring, genuine counsellor. She has helped me through 2 baby losses and has helped me to move forward with my life, remembering my little ones with love and light. I simply would not have been able to achieve this without her care and guidance. She really 'gets' all areas around baby loss and is able to support as such. I am truly grateful for Wendy, we have a professional client/counsellor relationship, but I will forever look upon her as my main support/friend through this very difficult period of my life.”

If you are able to travel to Shalford, just south of Guildford, you are welcome to visit me at home for face-to-face sessions. If you are further away or prefer the flexibility and comfort of talking from your own surroundings, I offer online or telephone sessions too.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute initial telephone or online session where we can talk about what brings you to counselling. I can answer any questions you may have and, together, we can get a sense of whether working with me feels right for you, with no obligation to continue.

Many clients comment on ‘feeling lighter’ once sessions are underway and are glad they picked up the phone or got in touch. After a first session one client recently wrote, "We both found it really helpful and left feeling a bit lighter. [D] also said you changed his opinion on counselling just minutes into the session! So really pleased, thank you. See you next week!"
