About me and my therapy practice
Are you feeling lost, not knowing how to move forward with the difficulties you are facing? Perhaps you are at a transition stage in your life, career or relationships and feel you want someone to help you take stock or make your way forwards. If so, I can help.
Therapy can support you through a wide range of emotional difficulties and life situations. I believe it's about having a conversation about the things which matter to you and working with what you want to feel differently about.
I am an experienced integrative therapist. I combine my high level training and varied and challenging life experiences to offer you support, insights and a compassionate, grounded presence. I’m here and happy to meet and support you in getting to grips with what feels difficult at the moment.
Whether you are experiencing anxiety, low mood, low self esteem, critical thoughts or something else; I've worked with clients experiencing a wide range of emotional difficulties and from many different walks of life; working in high level careers, academic studies, self employed or working in the creative sector. There’s no predetermined ‘type’ of person who benefits for therapy or issue which should be brought. If something feels important to you then it is worth exploring further. The thing my clients have in common is an openness to exploring different perspectives on life and a willingness to think and explore more about them self.
I think it can be surprising how stuck we become in our perspective on life and what's possible for ourselves; sometimes without realising. Therapy can be a deeply helpful way of discovering more about ourself; starting to appreciate and understand the many factors which can contribute to our difficulties and how we can work towards the kind of life we actually do want.
I'm not about forcing you to make changes you’re not ready for (I believe we make changes when we are ready, with support) but it can be a revealing experience to start taking a look.
Practice description
My work is informed by my training in existential as well as relational and integrative psychotherapy which means I understand the proven importance of a strong therapeutic relationship and the impact of our personal experiences and the culture and interpersonal experiences of our wider world. I listen to you and share my thoughts, ideas, impressions and insights all in the purpose of helping you reach a deeper level of awareness about yourself. Importantly I also invite you to do the same. I believe this is what helps you make the changes which feel right and feel the healing which you might need. My training is trauma informed and I can bring a variety of tools into my practice including somatic awareness. I also have an interest in feminist psychotherapy, and welcome working with women who feel this might enhance their therapeutic experience or want to explore aspects of female identity and how societal culture has impacted them.
My clients usually choose to work with me on an open ended basis and I do feel that this allows the necessary time it can take to properly explore and understand the multiple factors which can be at play in our life's challenges.
My hope is that you can bring an openness to reflecting on yourself (uncertainty and not knowing is fine). We work collaboratively to uncover all aspects of your experience and the ways forward. For this reason therapy can take time and it's a process which involves us both.
I also feel it's important to make time for regular check in sessions to find out how you feel therapy is going and that we are making time to talk about what matters to you.
My first session
I offer a discounted initial session together during which I seek to find out more about what brings you to therapy at this time, as well as well as what your hopes are for therapy (and your therapist). In turn, I'll aim to be as give as much insight as possible into how I work and how I see therapy. This will help us both decide whether we are a good fit for each other and want to continue to work together.
